96 Vortec Knock

I have a 1996 GMC Z-71 with a 5.7 vortec 350 engine. It has started knocking. My mechanic said it is in the bottom of the engine. So I put 20w-50 oil in it. Knock is still there. It is annoying, but I don't want spend 2000-2500 dollars in it for another engine and installation. Can I just get the bottom end rebuilt? Can that be done without pulling the engine? What kind of price am I looking at for parts and labor? Any advice would help. Thanks!

Your probably not going to find a machanic to refurbish the bottom end with a warranty. And yes, the engine has to come out.

Your just gonna have to get a new/rebuilt engine, because ripping out and rebuilding the bottom end isn't going to be that much cheaper than a total rebuild, becasue you need a new crank anyway.
