Rear Window Leaking

I thought this was a common problem with the NBS trucks, but I don't remember much talk about it on here. My sliding rear window has cracks in the molding in each upper corner. It was like that when I bought it 2 years ago. The glass guy who comes in our shop pointed it out to me because he said he had replaced some already due to leaking. At the time, I filled the cracks with silicone. Over the past 2 years, I would maybe get a few drops of water in real heavy ran. Over the past few weeks, it comes in pretty heavy. Last night it was pouring and there was a steady stream running on my back seat. Does anyone know how to fix this other than replacing the entire back glass? My cost through my glass vendor would be a little over $300 installed. I'd rather invest my money in hip boots if need be.

Sorry but I don't know know of a fix other then replacing the rear window itself,I had three installed in my '99 before GM finally came out with a redesigned window (of course since I started having the problem while the truck was under warranty it didn't cost me anything to have them replaced)

I just kept doing what you did as far as using silicone to fill the cracks, but that only lasts so long.

The only good news I can tell you is that the redesigned window from GM seems to be OK,I had mine put in my '99 last June and didn't have any problems with it at all when I traded it for my '04 which also has the slider and it too is OK so far.

I too am on my fourth sliding rear window, having 3 replaced under warranty. The first 2 were supposed to be redesigned, but the same thing happened...cracks in the upper corners. The dealer finally installed a CR Lawrence(or something like that) metal framed sliding rear window and it has been fine for the past couple of years. I'd look into an aftermarket version with a metal frame. The one I have looks factory, same design and all. All of the plastic GM ones seem to have repeat problems with cracking.
