8100 vs 502?

Wondering what the difference is between the 8100 (works out to 494cubic inches) and what GM calls the "502"? Thanks

everything is different, the 8.1 is designed like the LS1's to put it simple

The 502 is a true old school big block, not like the 8.1 doesnt share a hell of alot in common blockwise but there are a number of things different. The 502 has a 4.250" stroke while the 8.1 has a 4.37". The 8.1 uses different heads and intake, harmonic balancer, coil packs rather than distributor, and a different firing order which it shares with the Ls1's. There are a few more I just do not remember them all.

Don't forget the Marine version of the 8.1 doesn't have an Allison sucking power out of it.

They (GMperformance)never replied back saying why?? But my ideas are that there line up already has a ramjet 502, plus ZZ 572, a few ZL 454, number of 454 crates. So good chance it would not be a good seller, to effect that would be priced higher then Ramjet 502. To the effect that alrealy stacked with a # of high dollar big blocks. But my eyes it would have been the perfect swap for an 8100 HD truck, Stealth factor, can't tell whether or not its stock or not. Just think of people that you could fool into thinking that is only had 330hp.

This really blows, I just called Kenne Bell to order my Supercharger. Guess what, they don't have them available for the 2004 8.1 because of the same D**m throttle problem with the WOT being re-programmed for 2004. GM really shafted us on this deal. Not only can Lyndon @Westers not fix it, you can't even buy a supercharger. This is my third Yukon . If GM keeps taking content out of them and throwing up road blocks everywhere, it will be my last. I paid the money for the vehicle and a lot of it. I don't need GM to decide how much throttle I should get when I accelerate. I don't need them deciding the cabin does not need an air filter, locks on the glovebox and console, that I don't need a lock switch in the cargo area etc etc etc. !

Easy for you to say, your the one with clouds of smoke cascading from the back of your truck as you lay a 100 ft patch of rubber. I get to take off easy and protect GM's warranty liability.

Why can't he fix it? Torque management, throttle, DTCs can be programmed out. And if its not available at this time there are other means. The 04 8.1 is the same as it was in 02, and 04. There are plenty of blowers on them and they work fine if properly tuned. If an 04 PCM can't be programmed to work, then a 02 PCM could possibly be installed, I am willing to bet that the wiring is the same. and it could be easily piggy backed on top of the 04 PCM or totally replace it with the 02 PCM. Where there is a will there is a way.
