New Shocks

Guys, I just got Monroe Reflexes for my 04 Silverado, SBEC. Is there anything special I need to do to the shocks before I mount them?

 

I thought I did something for my Ram I had a few years ago when I replaced the shock. I don't recall if I fully compressed them, allowed them to rebound, and then do the same sequence again several times. I don't even know why I did it (if I did) other than the shop suggested it.

 

Just want to make sure I don't fry them or cause damage.

 

Will let you know how they work.

Straight forward repair...once unbolted, compress the fronts to get them in/out, and the same with the rear. The top nut on the fronts may give you a hard time because the shaft will spin as you go to remove the nut. They make a socket for holding the shaft, but I've always gotten away with using vise grips or channel locks. If anything looks rusted before hand, it could be beneficial to spray the nuts/bolts with a little rust penetrant to help break it up.

Yep,

 

Just put (4) Rancho RS 9000X's on mine last weekend.

Did exactly what Budhayes3 said worked great.

 

Had 99 4x4 1500 silverado before, put at least (3) sets on that one before same way, always worked fine.

One of the first things I did to the truck around 36k...and I'm not really mechanically inclined. Not a problem.

Not to try and jack this thread or anything but, is it benificial to replace the stock shocks with aftermarket ones even if you have the Z71 package? What will it improve over the stock shocks?

I just wanted to thank everyone for their help and responses. I replaced the shocks on Friday and boy did they make a big differance. It just feels more stable on the stutter bumps.

 

Just FYI- I put Monroe reflexes on a 2004 Silverado 2wd, SBEC. I don't think the originals were completely shot, they just aren't as responsive as the new ones are.

Maniac...the stockers on my ride were the red Tenneco's...they started to give a ride where you'd feel ever expansion strip on the interstate, etc. The Bilsteins firmed it up, where you don't feel the bumps like you would before.
