keyless entry

What would cause your remote to quit working from a distance ? All of a sudden mine will only work from about 5ft or closer...Put a new battery in and still no difference. When I first got the truck they worked from pretty far back and the wifes Trailblazer works great.

I have to pull mine apart every few months and clean the contacts and underside of the keypad buttons. Just pull it apart and use a q tip and rubbing alcohol and gently clean the pads on the circuit board and clean the black pads on the underside of the rubber keypad. Mine works like new afterwards, it is amazing how damp and cruddy those pads get just sitting in your pocket. Good Luck.

You may need to reprogram your remote. I found the procedure awhile back on MSN.com chat/groups message board. I think the group was GM techonline.

Speaking of reprograming. I bought a used 2002 5.3 Z71 on Saturday. Well the dealer cant find the keyless entry remote. It has been 5 days now, and I am getting impatient. If I just go down there and demand them make me a new one, can they do it. Is there going to be any BS that they will give me about not being able to to it?

No, they can do a key FOB and get you a new remote. I had this done when they couldn't find the second set of keys to my new truck, the lousy sucker gave me an all metal key with out the nice rubber end.

When I bought a 97 Z28 it did not have the keyless entry remotes or a second set of keys and I made them include all original keys and remotes before I bought it. The main key(passlock key) alone was $30.00.

You can get OEM remotes from Autozone. You don't need te dealer to program them. I would check the RPO codes first to make sure you have the keyless entry option.

My truck now had the keyless option but I made the dealer put in an alarm system. Now if I can find out how to get around the dreaded 99 no un-lock option.

Well I found the original sticker, and it came with it. So I'm good so far.

So if I go to autozone they can program me a new set. How much do you think it would cost. I prefer to stay far far away from the Stealership at all cost, unless I need warrenty work

What is the dreaded no unlock? Mine has not given any trouble, should I expect it and what to do?

I have two GM cars which use remotes and I have bought spart remotes for them on EBay. I think I have bought about 6 remotes and most of them work although their ranges vary. I don't think I have ever paid more than $12 for an OEM remote on EBay. They are easy to program and directions for programming are available on the internet. I can tell you how to reprogram a 1995 with an OBD-I connector. Just short the first and last pins on the OBD connector and the locks will cycle. Then hit a button on the remote and the locks will cycle again and it will be programmed.
