New Truck Noises and Other Issues

I am having several issues with my NEW tuck. It is a 2004 2500HD, 4x4, 6.0L, auto, 4.10 locker with 800 miles on it. I was wondering if these were “normal” problems or something the dealer might actually fix.

1. The engine has a fairly loud ticking noise at all temps, at all rpm’s. It is loud enough for my wife to notice it.

2. When I quickly rev the engine from idle, I hear a “whooshing” sound and a slight hesitation from the engine. The sound is not from the air intake, I think it is vacuum related, but I can’t find a leak. The truck seems to have plenty of power except for when you try to take off quickly from a stop.

3. When I shift from park to reverse the transmission clunks louder than I am used to.

4. I can feel a small clunk in the rear end when I back up sometimes. Is this just the locking rear end?

5. If I put pressure on the brake pedal when I start the truck, it quickly looses pressure and then tightens back up.

The last 3 don’t seen to be too big of a deal, but the first two really bother me. Please let me know if these are common problems, or if you have any ideas about what they are.

Thanks

Hi -

I don't have a 6.0, but I can address a couple of these for you:

#2 - I don't know about the whoosh but the lack of power from a dead stop is torque management being applied. That part is normal. You can have that removed or decreased via a custom tune

#5 - Normal

Don't know if it's normal, but mine does #3 and #4...kind of stinks...pay all that money for a new truck and have problems from the get go
