I have a tendency to lurk around the V-Twin forum (formerly the Harley-Davison Forum) and stumbled on this looking for some tech. issues.

 

I bought my first car in '73 it was a Ford (also my last) with a 428c.i. engine, after about a year I got the car of my dreams, a Camaro. Since then I've owned about 12 Camaro Z-28's, the latest was a '94 Z and the previous which I owned for 16 years was a loaded 396 SS/RS. It had 70k miles on the ticker when I sold it in '02 to buy a Harley Davidson. I don't regret selling it but still miss it.

 

I've driven trucks all my life as well. My first SUV was a '81 K5 Blazer Silverado. I rebuilt the motor after many hard miles with some help from a mechanic neighbor, re-painted and re-upholstered it (my dad owned a body/upholstery shop) and drove it about 10 years. I drove SUV's even before they were cool. I upgraded to a '92 Yukon, kept it about 6 years and now have a '99 Yukon. I've alway's did my own wrenching as long as no dealer test equipment was needed , then I reluctantly send it to a full time tech. Nothing against them but I hate to have to pay someone to do something that I am capable of doing myself. I grew up around auto body and mechanic shops. One of my late uncles owned several cars that won several Grand National Championships (formerly Winston Cup and now Nextel). I worked on a pit crew as a tire carrier for Dave Rezendes' #79 Busch team in '90 and '91, and carried tires for Greg Sacks in '90 when he drove the Exxon sponsored car at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Coca-Cola 600 that was used in the "Day's of Thunder" movie. I live in Mooresville (Dooley Township), NC where most of the Nascar drivers and race shops reside. I actually live across the cove from where Dale Earnhardt lived before he built his log mansion. Dale Jr. lives about 4 miles from me and it is not uncommon to see the drivers on a regular basis doing things that normal people do. Around here they are usually treated as a regular Joe, unless the race fans are in town for the Lowe's Motor Speedway events. Then, you can't get around town for all of the fans visiting the race shops.
