1988 k1500 engine swap

dont want to bang mine if this wont work.

i blew up the 350 tbi at 220 horsepower and am considering a new crate engine.

the vortech 350 is the logical choice at 330 horsepower, will my tbi work and what about bolt patterns to mate up with my 5 speed stick 4 wheeler. i am sure someone found the 220 horses inadaquate and has done this. a little help please

To my knowledge, the Tranny bolt pattern has not changed on Chevy V-8's in a long time. The TBI on the other hand may not be the same way. The crate enging may have Vortec heads on it, this may not mount up to your old TBI. But why would you want to keep the old TBI anyhow? Think RamJet, or better yet 502/502, that would give you more power, Grunt, Grunt!!!!

as odd as this might seem, the radiator,alternator, the exhaust, flywheel etc, i dont have the coin enough to buy, how ever i bet with a hot cam kit in a crate vortech will put nearly 360 at the flywheel, this would be such an upgrade it would be well worth it for 23-2600$. stock it was a wimpy 220 horsepower

 

i might be able to get away with the tbi setup just by installing it on the new vortech manifold, i have cruise and all the options that need the electronics provided that year.

as far as a big block goes i am working on my wife for a 67 chevelle ss with a 572/620 to burn gas with-- wish me luck!

Good luck!! I am working on 1970 Chevy Truck. It is sitting under a tarp waiting for me to get busy on it again. I redid the entire chasis but had to stop at the body. Ran out of money and got divorced. Now I am playing catchup and need to get started again.

As I have seen, Vortech motors have a different intake (as well as heads) than pre-vortech motors. This might conflict with the tbi on your current engine. As stated before, the bell housing bolt pattern has not changed on the SBC, or even current engines.

This cannot be done without major computer swaps. This is a serious PITA. Do some searches on the board for later posts with my name. I believe its a question I asked about a year ago or so. Your best bet is to have the TBI motor rebuild with stronger parts.

And by the way, if you build the motor much stronger than stock you'll be blowing the NV3500 5 speed to bits soon. It's rated input torque limit is 300ft-lbs, which is exactly the stock torque of a TBI 350. That's while the 5-speed only comes with the 5.0L and 4.3L in '96-98 trucks, and 4.8L and 4.3L in NBS trucks.
