cruise controls

I'm on my 4th Silverado (89,88,90,99) and either my luck is that bad that i always buy trucks that don't have working cruise controls or that i just don't understand how to set the cruise.

In all of my other vehicles (mostly Hondas) I first enable by pushing the cruise button the at a speed of about 30mph or more I can push the "set" button. Is their something that I'm missing.

Also, my 99' has the push button 4x4 controls; Im used to the older "stick"4x4 controls. What is the proper proccedure for enabling 4x4 , do i still have to put the transmission into the nuetral position or can I shift while in park?

Okay and someone please correct me if I am wrong. For the 4X4, if you go into 4WD high, just push the button while driving under 50MPH and it will switch. To go into 4 low, you must stop and place the tranny in N and let the transfer case switch, then put the truck in gear. This should get you in low, to get back to 2 or 4 high, you must again stop and shift to N.

As far as the cruise goes, you flip the small switch on the front of the turnsignal thingie towards the steering wheel, pust the button on the end to set (over 35MPH).
