Jack This Up?

I have a 2003 Quadrasteer and can't seem to find a Lift Kit for it. The dealership that originally sold the truck to me said one was available, but no, there 'aint. I've had the truck for exactly one year today, and need to make some changes. All the major lift companies, that I know of, say it won't be out for another year or so... Any other ideas?

Also... I am running 20" wheels and need some snow-tires. Anybody know of a company that has 'em?

Cheers.

I was watching Overhaulin' awhile back and they said that the BFG TA KO were going to be offered in a 20. Not sure if it ever happened but they did put a set on an Explorer. Probably be pricy but would be one heck of a 20" tire!!

With not many people ordering that option, your going to be hardpress to find one(LIFTKIT) and it will be $$$.

You should do what most people do when they need snow tires, take your bling-bling off and put your old rims back on with some good snow tires.

After dumping all that money into rims, you really want to put them through a winter?

BFG already makes a 20" AT. They came out this summer. I have a friend who has a set on his truck. I want to say the size is 285/50 r-20. They work out to be the same overall dimensions as a 285/75 r-16. They also are very expensive. They are so rare right now that production is limited. I have a close family friend that owns a tire shop and he got a set ordered in July and he still has not sold them yet becuase nobody want to pay for 20" wheels and then turn around and pay $1200 for a set of AT's

To lift that you may be doing a lot of fabrication and in depth research. You'd have to find another truck using the same rear leaf setup to lift the rear with, no idea how this affects the geometry of the rear steer. I would think the front would be the same as any other like model w/o rear steer. I'd love to see a 6" lifted q-steer, that would be one hell of a mudder!

Thanks for all the help...

I've checked into the 285/55R 20's and BFG does make them, and unfortunately, they won't be available in my area for another month or so... Cost fo rme is $326.00/tire (cdn)

As for running my "Bling Bling" 20's in the winter... They have been powdercoated and then clearcoated. I'm set up for this. They'll look as good next summer as they do right now....bu thanks for the advise...

LIFT KIT: I've found a company that'll add a leaf to the back (up 4") and a kit from Superlift for the front.... Now my only problem is finding a company that'll do it. The guys around here are "too scared to try anything new". You guys/girls know any shops in Vancouver BC?

Happy Hollidays!

Nothing to be scared of with QSteer. It is a very beefy system and is self-contained with the rear axel, meaning a lift is a s easy as any other 4x4, lift the rearend and all the QSteer parts lift with it. Worst case you'd have to lenghten a wire or two. All the same parts will work as the leaf springs are the same size. These companies say they don't have parts because they never tried them on a Qsteer truck. I had the same trouble with Belltec, they said they didn't make drop shackles for a Qsteer truck, but I bought a 2"drop Beltec #6400 anyway and they bolted right on.

Go here for more info on QSteer and to see other lifted trucks. http://www.booksfast.net/quadrasteerclub.htm

As always, Butch beats me to the Quad ??'s :flag::banghead: !!

Trevahh, Butch is right, tho. Lifting a quad is like any other GM of those years, you might just have one more piece of wire harness to extend. But DO NOT adjust the rear axle for pinion angle, as this will upset the camber of the rear steer.

There's a Denali with a 6" lift, 3" body lift and 37's on the page Butch linked.

Also check out the forum on that same link- it's dedicated to Quadrasteers, and there are Delphi techs on the board that help with whatever issues come up.

I would think there could be an issue with maintaining pinion angle with ball joint angle(Castor). I'm not sure of the alignment specs or if it would even be an issue, but with the rear end shimmed to maintain drivetrain geometry, I would think you would have to change the ball joint angle. Just a thought.

With all your help & reassurance (sp)... I've got the ball rolling...

I've ordered a kit for the front, and will set up an appointment to add a leaf on the rear soon... I'll take lots of pics and detail all my steps so it'll be easier for the next guy...

So far with the tires, I've found a set in Washington (285-55R 20 BFG A/T) and probably will order them in for the early new year.

Merry X-mas all!,

Ahhh, good point... What the heck is that for anyway? All it seems to do is tighten up the shocks and make it unbearable stiff ride. I've tried using it off-raod and the truck bounces all over the place.

It's a bit pricey, but I'm single so what the heck... I better make the truck the way I want it before I get hiched... lol...

    • You're better read than that Atlas. 😏   British science fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke formulated three adages that are known as Clarke's three laws, of which the third law – that "any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic" – is the best known and most widely cited.   Stribeck and the pivotable Hersey Number isn't voodoo nor snake oil. That part is physics. It's what marketing and bean counters do with it that is snake oil and voodoo.    Stribeck is the relationship between Hersey and the Coefficient of Friction. Within the Hersey Equation if viscosity and viscosity is 'Dependent' on.......heat.......and.......viscosity index or the temperature to viscosity slope.    Specifically Hersey is the viscosity AT THE TEMPERATURE IN THAT LOCATION FOR THAT SLOPE.   Hydrodynamic lubrication exist when the film thickness in the location is 3X the Ra roughness of the surface. This is irrespective of the hardness of the substrate. To obtain that thickness X viscosity is required for Y velocity at Z load. That's a lot of moving parts. It is also impossible to maintain in an ICE but nearly possible with a turbine under constant load.    What does that mean? Error heavy and operate light. Wear is inevitable but the rate of wear and the milage obtainable are a function of prevailing conditions and HABITS. The only penalty is viscous drag and at fractions so low as to be well worth the effort. Double the life, half the manufacturing carbon foot print. Greed is the only impediment.    The materials generated by SwRI are the RESULT not an estimation or a hypothesis.    Don't delude yourself sir, EV's have as many pitfalls as ICE's. We just don't know what they are yet and it will take longer to sort as MARKETING and GREEDY CEO's have had more time to polish the turd they are selling.
    • You can always count on greed to prey on ignorance and stupidity.    Friend bought a 2019 Ford Flex and asked me about using Valvoline R&P 5W30 in it. Told him give the miles on it and the fact it wasn't yet using oil that it was a good plan. He uses a Valvoline quick change shop for his oil service.   First they tell him that isn't the oil the OEM recommends. He told them he didn't care what the OEM thought. Then they floated the, "But it will void your warranty"    His reply was it's a 2019, there is no warranty and informed them their knowledge of the law was lacking.    Then they tell him 'But it will ruin your motor"!.    Mine to ruin he says. Finally they give in and charge him 150% the semi-syn price    Point it the brainwash is so embedded that even the service industry is drunk on their swill. The public is right behind them. Echoing the same lies on every forum and media platform. If the end goal is indeed EV then I'd say that ship is about built.
    • Diesel hit $6.00 here today at the truck stop.   Payed $2.79 for E85 today too.
