Why is it so easy to get into a Silverado and the GMC trucks?? My 2004 Z71 was broken into by just jamming a screw driver under the door handle and forceing the locking rod "THATS IT" Why can't it be designed better??

There is some sort of steel recessed door handle thing that goes in place of the stock plastic... I'm sure you could google it and find someone to sell it to ya.

 

Metalhead~ Did they just break in to grab stuff?? did they try tearing the column apart to take off with your truck? for shame, that kinda stuff shouldn't happen~

There is an aftermarket guard available that bolts in and protects under the handle.

 

But really, a vehicle can only be as secure as the weakest point and a hammer, brick, rock etc. akes pretty short work of a window.

If someone wants in and they have the time, they will get in!

That's why alarms are added, not to keep people from getting in, but to draw attention when they do.

All you really need is a few keys from other trucks... they may not start it, but other keys will open the door. The 99-05's are no better than the obs trucks that used the same setup on the door.

Honestly though who pays any attention to an alarm going off? I don't anymore,it seems around here there like they are always going off for no reason or if the wind blows the wrong way or if someone just touches the truck,etc.And I never see anyone around when there going off or those that are around don't get excited.

If someone wants your truck or wants in it there getting it!!! :ughdance:

On my last truck (which was bought used - so I do not know how he installed it) it came with a 10 sec delay fuel pump shut off - I wondered why the delay - well when some punks tried to steal it , the truck made it out to the busy street and died on them. That is not a good place to try and strip or grab items from inside - so they just got out and ran. All my personel stuff was still there - only had to fix the ignition and a window. About to by a new one - I will figure out how to do this on it.

I know that On Star is a stolen vehicle tracking device. I have never looked close on my truck to the fuses. Is the On Star fuse tied in with an ignition or injector relay? This would make sense. If not, all that the theif would have to do is pull a fuse to disable On Star. I also heard that by 2007 almost all vehicles would be set up with GPS tracking devices and "black boxes".

Good question! And I feel your pain. Mine was broken into TWICE using this same method. The first time they got an Alpine headunit and one sub from under the rear seat. Last time (a couple months ago) they didn't get in thank goodness, but they left a hole under my handle that I can stick my finger in. I haven't had the money to fix it so its still there. :flag:

Word ... I don't either. As you said, its just too commonplace to pay much attention to it anymore. Of course I'm sure that security guards and such will check out things like that, but I would say that the general public probably isn't going to go investigate when they hear an alarm. Personally I'd like to have a Glock mounted behind the instrument panel that would put a round between the eyes of the thief ... be my luck it would malfunction and I'd be the one eating lead though. :ughdance:

Ummm, this "hack" has been around at least since the OBS trucks so it's not news to any of the criminals out there. And I doubt any of those morons are gonna be doing google searches since they prob can't speel [sic] google anyway. :eek:

This is no secret that ony GM truck owners are allowed to know. I'm a proud owner of GM trucks and will continue to buy/lease new Silverados, however this is a design "FUBAR". I have other friends who have had the same problem with attempted B&E 's and out right theft of their truck. I know if someone wants the truck badly no amount of security will prevent its removal, however if one aspect can be changed or redesigned with regards to the door handle/lock system then maybe it will deter someone from doing damage. Just my two cents

You could get one of those dummy bodyguards and put him in the passenger seat, make it look like he is napping. The Staties were pulling people over for putting them in the passenger seat so they could ride solo in the commuter lanes! :ughdance:

Sorry, I didn't mean to upset anyone, and I'm sure it's no secret about how to break in to someone's truck. But just because it's no secret doesn't mean that everyone knows about it.

Haven't gotten 'em yet myself, but it looks real easy, and if you're good with working metal, perhaps you could make your own.

 

Chevy trucks aren't the only "easy" vehicle to break into. My coworker had his Jeep Cherokee stolen by a 15 yr old for a joy ride. Got in with a screwdriver and stripped the ignition lock with same. He had Lojack so it was recovered in just a few hours.

      You can always count on greed to prey on ignorance and stupidity.    Friend bought a 2019 Ford Flex and asked me about using Valvoline R&P 5W30 in it. Told him give the miles on it and the fact it wasn't yet using oil that it was a good plan. He uses a Valvoline quick change shop for his oil service.   First they tell him that isn't the oil the OEM recommends. He told them he didn't care what the OEM thought. Then they floated the, "But it will void your warranty"    His reply was it's a 2019, there is no warranty and informed them their knowledge of the law was lacking.    Then they tell him 'But it will ruin your motor"!.    Mine to ruin he says. Finally they give in and charge him 150% the semi-syn price    Point it the brainwash is so embedded that even the service industry is drunk on their swill. The public is right behind them. Echoing the same lies on every forum and media platform. If the end goal is indeed EV then I'd say that ship is about built.

      2026 6.6 L5P oil cooler leaking oil at 4,000 miles

      New to diesel trucks. I happened to find my oil cooler leaking oil externally with only 4,000 miles on the truck. I didn’t realize this was an issue until I started researching it. Dealer is going to replace it under warranty but I’m wondering if there’s anything GM is working on to fix this issue. I’ve heard the oil filter used is the same as they use on their V6 motors and that’s what is causing the problems. Should I switch to a bigger filter or keep using the OEM recommended?

      So, GMCustomerService:  Judging by the Update History pictured above, is this truck missing any updates that it actually needs. If it's just for the infotainment system, the radio is working fine and no trouble with SeriusXM. and Android Auto is working fine wirelessly with my phone. Some months ago, an update notice was sent to my truck. I approved the update and it finished saying that the update was successful, but it seems that whatever that update was, it didn't actually get installed - at least not if I'm to go by the Update History shown above.   So, again, are there any updates that this truck really should have? I've checked with my dealer but they're reluctant or commit to anything and if I want them to check, they require a $200.00 fee just to check it out and then I'd have to pay for the actual update(s).    Ignorance is bliss, and if none of the updates goes to fixing any mechanical discrepancies, I'll just leave things as is.
