weird sound commin from engine..

when i accelerate from a stop, or hard... it makes a sound like a very soft clap... its done it for a while, just didnt think of it. has anyone herd of this, if so, can you help me out on this!? thank's

have you checked motor mount bolts to frame? that was my issue due to the shift kit i have installed

Does the noise appear to come from the front or rear of the truck?

sounds to me like its commin from the heart of the engine.... know anything bout that?

Does it hesitate? It could be making a pinging sound from bad gas. Do you run 87 Octane? Try a tank of 90 Octane and see what happens.

no hesitation at all... its been doin it for a long long time... just never thought anything bout it... can there be anything else?

Check those motor mounts first just to rule them out if its not them.

It could be anything like internal... Timing chain slack, Water pump making noise.

I'd bet money that your U joints are shot, have them looked at, it takes a second and any shop will check it for free.

Are you getting one clap, or a continuous clap? If just one, I'd look into loose or broken motor or trans mounts, worn u-joints, loose exhaust hanger, something like that. If it's continuous, it could be a noisy valvetrain or lifter, noisy accessory (like alternator or tensioner), or waterpump, timing chain, etc.

 

If any trans work has been done, you might want to check that the torque converter bolts are tight, and inspect the flexplate for cracks also.
