Hey guys im plannin out a new system for my 88 single cab cheyenne. Im on about a 450 buck budjet to do it all. I mean 4 4x6 speakers, a new head unit, dual subs, and an amp.

This is what Im thinkin, if you see anything you might disagree with please tell me because I dont know so much about this stuff.

a head unit like this (there are a few in this price range)

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-suEpqklODjg/c...50&I=113KDC3025

im pretty well decided that im gonna get four of these

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-suEpqklODjg/c...00&I=130TSG4640

this leaves about 150-200 for subs and a suitable amp. I am gonna make the enclosure. also, I am probably going to buy the subs off of ebay. what brands should i look out for? theres alot of MTX stuff for sale, which I think mite be a bad thing.

thanks alot for all the help.

My one piece of advice. Spend twice as much money on half the amount of speakers. Get a really good pair of front speakers and don't worry about any rear speakers. My system is in my sig and sounds real good just using the stock rear speakers for fill.

^^You have a crew cab though, not a single cab like BigMc is asking about. And it's an '88 model....why wouldn't you replace the stock rear speakers? The rear 4"x6" speakers are located right by your friggin' ear in the old single cab trucks. Replace them all, don't leave the stock speakers in there. I've had good luck with rockford fosgate 4"x6" speakers.

Then replace just the rear speakers and get BETTER sounding speakers.

Once again...it's a 1988 model. The stock speakers are 16-17 years old. Even if the original speakers still work, they probably don't sound very good. It wouldn't make sense to only replace two speakers in this situation. If it were an extended cab or crewcab, then you could probably get away with just buying one pair of speakers. But in a single cab, you can hear the fronts and rears very well. Another thing, they're 4"x6" speakers. You're not going to notice much of a sound difference by spending $100 on a pair of 4"x6" speakers instead of $50, especially when they're only being powered from the head unit. Those Pioneers look nice, I would go with two pairs of those. I've always liked Pioneer products.

replace all of the speakers if you can... but hook them up to a amp... they will sound alot better! so basically you would have to get 2 amps... this is actaully alot better but is alittle more costly!

ps if you want max bang for a buck check out power acoustik Http://www.poweracoustik.com

Are you going for sound quality or volume. If you are going for sound quality, I would purchase 1 higher quality woofer and amp than 2 cheaper woofers and amp. You could possibly find a 5 channel amp to run all the 4x6 speakers and the sub(s). The 5 channel amp would probably consume most of your budget though. I had 3 different sub configurations when I had my '88 SC and I prefered 1 sub. It was not as loud, but it sounded good and I still had enough room behind ths seat to stow some cargo behind the seat.

i really want a mix of both quality and volume, bc i jus wanna have the best system of me and all my friends, and theyre all car-retarted so theyre gonna spend about the same amount for everything, but at circuit city, with installation and all so im thinkin theyre s**ts gonna be pretty crappy. so i think i can pass on the amp for the speakers and all.

ive been thinkin....would a tube subwoofer be suitable for me?

i thought the bazooka's always sounded kinda boomy. if you're wanting alot of bass in a small package then they're great, but if you're wanting tight, clean bass i'd go a different route.

and why try to buy everything at once? i've bought my stereo components at different times. it allows you to buy better stuff, but at a slower rate. which is how i've got almost $2K in my stereo and right around $5K in my fiance's. i sure didn't have 2 grand to drop at once........and 5 grand is out of the question at once. sure your friends may have bass when you don't, but when you roll up bumpin with stuff they dream about at night you'll make them green with envy once more :)

i would spend the most money on a great headunit and good speakers vs. good headunit and great speakers. speakers can make all the difference in the world, but not if the source they're getting their music from sucks. most of the 4x6s you'll find sound about the same, so it's really a matter of opinion. i've got some alpine 4x6 plates all the way around in my 91 single cab. they sound pretty good

alpine makes a great deck. even their lower end stuff sounds just as good, if not better, than some other companies higher end stuff. if you're planning on adding 1, or even 2, amp(s) down the line for your mids/highs go ahead and buy a headunit with 3 rca outputs (front, back, and sub). if you plan on adding the amp(s) in the near future i wouldn't be too highly concerned about what the power ratings are for the internal amps.

x2. A great headunit will make all the difference in the world. I'd stay away from the bass tubes.

i see what you mean about spendin more over time, but i wont do that bc 1. im only gonna have my truck for a year or two at most. 2. i just wanna have something good, thats it, any extra cash is goin into the engine. and 3. im pullin the entire interior out, so thats gonna be the time to do it. I just want to do everything really nice the first time, and then not have to screw around with it again.

do you guys have any suggestions on h/u's that are 150 at most (cd player)

look at alpine. they should have one around that price that will sound better than anything else in that price range. crutchfield.com will give you sort of a general idea on some stuff. they don't carry everything, but it's a start
