Tires for an '01 Sierra 2WD

Hi guys,

Just found this site and some good info on here. Some nice trucks too...

I need to replace the tires on my '01 Sierra 2WD pickup.

It's got the OEM General's 255/70/16 that are just about done and I don't think will make another winter. I was thinking of going up to a 265/70/16 since they are only about 1/2" taller.

Has anyone on here done the same on a 2WD version? Any pics would be even better if available. I want the tire to fill up the wheel well a little more but I'm trying to avoid the tire looks too big for the truck look.

I ran 265/75R16's on my 99 2WD up until two days ago when I upped them to 285/75R16's. If you don't lift the truck, you should still be able to fit the 265's, but they will rub the plastic fender well when you back up and turn (at the same time). Also, your speedo will read about 3-5mph slower than you are actually going. If this bothers you, get a Hypertech Power Programmer. Not only will it correct for the tire size change, but it does a whole lot more, including upping the HP by 30+ if you so choose.

I am trying to post a pic of mine with the 265's, but I can't figure out how to do it. Hopefully I can get it soon, but in the meantime, the 265's would definately look better, but not too big.

Okay- I have no idea how to upload a picture, but it is no use anyway. My truck is lifted 3" so with the 265's, it looks exactly like a stock Z71, which is considerably taller that your 2WD. My theory is that all the tires on these fullsizes look disproportially small, especially from a width standpoint. I think you are on the right track for what you described you wanted.

That's what it was advertised as for a 6.0L (see article in Off-Road Adventures).

my 00 yukon 2wd came with 265/70 R16s (the firestones). i went with the same size michelin ltx m/s when i got new tires at 62K miles. don't know if that means the same would fit on your rig for sure... anyone help???
