Truck hard start

Any input on what is happening when try to start my 2000 5.3 after it has not been run for lets say 4-10 days. Symtoms are after some cranking the motor starts runs ruff and dies. 2nd time it seems some gas pedal is needed to keep it running (still ruff idle for say a minute. then it smoothes out and runs good. Only after its been sitting it happens. Dealer says no codes, can duplicate the problem. Is there a check valve in the fuel system letting the pressure off the system???

Try turning the key on and then off. Then on again. This will let the fuel pump pressurize the system a couple of times. When the truck sits for a while it could be getting air in the system. Turning the fuel pump on and off a couple of times could help some.

Might have a busted fuel pressure regulator. Mine did this also. Kept good pressure

though. Replaced the reg. and hasn`t done that again.

This may be your culpruit. Look on top of your intake manifold at the fuel line from the tank. You shoud see the regulator. If there is any small puddle of fuel or stains around it, change it out. I had this happen on my 99. I can't remember the price but it was easy and fairly cheap.
