Oil Change Interval

This is going to sound like a really stupid question, but here goes:

What is the oil change interval for a 2500 Av?

I just signed up for the owner's site at chevy.com and it's telling me every 10,000 miles, or when the oil change light turns on...  Does this seem right to you?  I'd look in my owner's manual, but it's in my vehicle right now and it's cold outside, and I'm being lazy...Guess I'll have to look tomorrow...

:stupid:

I don't have an Av, but I like to change my oil every 3000 mi. in all my vehicles no matter how old or how many cyl. they have.  The new oils are supposed to be better, but I'd rather play the safe card.  I definitely don't wait for the "change oil" light to come on either.

every 3ms or 3k. actually, you could go longer w/o an oil change if you dont live in harsh conditions, but because its fairly cheap and easy maintainance...3ms/3k has been what most owners do. i wouldnt go 10,000 miles though! at the most 4,000.

Mike, Good Question.

I have an 02 sierra and am waiting for the light.

I'm pretty sure if I follow GM's recomendations, I will be OK. If not, I will buy a different truck.

I run Mobil 1 in my vehicles. So I usually wait until the 5k mile mark. I had 145k miles on my 94 Z71 and used mobil 1 the entire time. Never smoked, never had any problems. I am going to change the Avs the first time around 3k, does that sound good? I haven`t read the owners manual.

i was told not to wait for the light. the computer doesnt monitor oil breakdown, only mileage.

The computer monitors, RPM's, hours, and a bunch of other things and then through an algorithm will turn the light on.

In my truck, which is driven in town at slow speeds the light comes on about 2500-2800 miles.  In my wifes old van, it would come on between 4000-4500 miles because it was driven at speed more often.

Personally I wouldn't go past 4k before a change.  But alot of manufacturers like Honda, BMW and Mercedes recommend changes in the 7500-10000 mile range.

They may be right that the oil doesn't break down as fast as we think, but I'm stuck in "the old days", and can't wwait that long.

When I was in college 15 years ago, I had an old beater car that I changed the oil in every 8k-12k miles.  (If I bought oil, then I would have to steal $ from my beer fund).  I never had a problem with this car.  It had 40K on it when I bought it and just over 100K when I traded it on my 1983 Chevette "S".

I change oil every 3000 miles. A few months ago we bought a Volvo S60. The manual says oil change interval should be 10,000 miles. This sounds ridiculous to me.

With about 12,000 I decided to wait until the light went on.....started getting nervous at 4,000 miles....let it go several hundred more miles until I just went and had it changed.....with the synth I dont have a problem waiting until 3,500-4,000 but over that is too "iffy" for my taste.  And we all know about my taste right?
