Put the Green Keys in today

Recommended Posts

Man......I'm not sure I can take it. hahahahaha....

Put green keys in today. Looks awesome, rides terrible. It leveled the front end out like a champ. Probably came up about 2inches.

I expected the ride to get stiffer (if possible), but it now rides like a pogo stick. Soon as you hit a bump it keeps on bouncing. I can stand the stiffness, but not the bouncing. Anybody else notice this change? Will new shocks fix this problem?

I need the lift cause my tires and rims are due here next week

This truck is gonna look badass but it gonna ride like s**t. hahahaha

Any suggestions....other than to quit whining?

I'll get some pics up as soon as I'm done building.....

By the way....I've been reading up on the bilsteins....

I can't find the post with part numbers for an extended shock for this application.

Nevermind....I found the thread

What size tires do you have now?

I put in green keys and it rides a LOT better than it did with the stock keys maxed out.

It's not in my head either---the wifey said so too.

I've got 285's and from the floor/ground to the fender molding is 41 3/4" or something close to it...cant remember exactly---and the rear measures 42". You can't tell a difference.

265's right now.....gonna be 315's within a week I hope.

I'm pretty sure this is a shock/suspension problem. The bouncing can't be the tires i wouldn't think.

It is the shocks, those extended Blistiens will fix it.

That's what I'm reading.....the only problem is I'm seeing conflicting posts on what model number to use.

I'd love to hear from someone who's actually DONE the shock swap in my same scenario. If not, I'll call Bilstein and post back next week.

Darn truck costing me a fortune. LOL

OK...here's the skinny.

I called Billstein today to give them my configuration and the tech dept said "we don't make a shock for that application other than the OEM replacement 6081". He did say that the Billstein was not position sensitive meaning that even if it were "over extended" it wouldn't affect the ride like the stock shock does. He gave me the number to Race Car Dynamics (619-588-4723) and said that they specialize in GM lifts including torsion key replacements/adjustments. I called them and spoke to Paul...super nice guy. Paul says they do in fact sell a shock specifically for that application (BE5-6140-HO). I think c5hd already knew this....

Anywho...I placed an order for these and should get them by thursday. I'll let you guys know how it turns out.

Try backing it down a .25" at a time. This happened to me when I cranked mine over 2.5". Finally got it backed down to 2" and have been there for 2 yrs and 20K miles with no problem. Easy enough to try and won't cost you a thing!

you're getting the bouncing because the lower control arm gets off its bumpstop when torsion bars are cranked. the compression stops are designed to be part of the spring rate, when it is separated from the lower a arm, it makes the front end bounce. you need to extend the bump stop.

Where were you guys $200 ago? LOL...just kidding

I'm gonna try out the shocks....see what happens. If that doesn't fix it, I'll back her down a crank or two.

Rims came in today, placed the tire order, shocks should be here thursday. Hopefully I can post some pictures of this beast this weekend.

I WOULD HAVE PAINTED DOOR HANDLES AND CHROME MIRRORS BUT STREETINSPIREDKUSTOMS.COM FOOKED ME OUTTA $315 I DO BELIEVE. :chevy::chevy::crackup:

Did you say you are going with 315's? You say your wheels came in so I would assume they are at least a 16x8. Any other lift besides the TB crank? If 285's rub I don't see how 315's are gonna come close to fitting. You would be hard to fit them with a 4" Rancho lift. Let us know how they turn out.

That's right....315/70/r17's on hummer h2 rims.

no additional lift....so we'll see.

if they don't fit, you guys might be seeing some nice rims/tires for sale on here pretty soon.

I barely was able to fit 285's, I had the torsion bars maxed out on the stock keys, and the front bumper slid forward about 1/4" I still had to trim the lower part of the plastic bumper cover.
