DRL's

My trucks driver side DRL just burned out. Seems every Chevy/GMC I see with a buned out bulb is on the driver side. I think it has something to do with the weight distribution, battery, washer fluid, steering and other stuff all on that side. I think when you hit a bump or something, the added stress does something to the filament, just a guess. Does anyone have a p/n for a extended life bulb, amber or white, I dont care. Thanks.

A new 14 volt DRL bulb, P/N 15199562 (trade bulb #4114K), is now available for use whenever a DRL lamp bulb on the above listed vehicles requires replacement. This more robust, higher voltage DRL bulb replaces P/N 1999482 (trade bulb #4157K). These bulbs should be replaced in pairs for customer satisfaction.

WHAT have you been smokin?

It's a 50% probabilty that you are just REMEMBERING the ones you see burnt out on the drivers side.

Maybe I'm a :chevy: but I have to agree with JHM. Most of the trucks I see w/o DRL working is on the driver's side. I remember reading previous posts that attribute the DRL failure to heat build up and for some reason it is more of a problem on the drivers's side. However, I don't recall seeing nearly as many 03+ models with either DRL out. Maybe they haven't "aged" enough to burn out or maybe the General finally got it right. (For what it was worth, on my last 01 model I replaced the driver's side at around 20K miles and the passenger side at around 38 K.)

I haven't been "smokin" nothin but it seems like you are blowing a lot of it. Why would it be a 50% probability of remembering the ones I see burnt out on the drivers side? If you are saying I have a selective memory when it comes to light bulbs, then it would have to be 100% not 50%. I can honestly say I have never seen a DRL out only on the passenger side, but maybe 50-100 on the driver side. When the driver side goes out, most intelligent people would replace both at the same time, especialy because many replace with amber, which is why you don't see just the passenger side out. I said my reasons for the bulb burn out was "just a guess", I don't have the time or inclination to research the issue, thanks GM-TECH for the p/n.

Had my 03 for year and no burn out bulbs

My truck is a '01 and this is the first bulb to burn out. At least they are easy to replace, I have heard of some idiotic designs where you have to remove the bumper, grille, etc just to replace a bulb!

I agree with you that most of the bulbs burn out on the driver's side.

You gotta admit though that the thing about the weight is pretty funny. :chevy:

I made a similar comment one day to my wife about "I see these brand new trucks with burnt out DRL's and mine are still kickin after 4 years!"....left side burnt out next day

Just swapped in some long life ambers not too long ago, looks nice.

Maybe the wires to the Drivers side are shorter. Shorter wires=less resistance=higher voltage and current=more heat=burn out faster. Not to mention that even if the bulbs were getting exactly the same current and voltage they will never burn out at the same exact time. Why? Because nothing is perfect!

My first post! :banghead:

Just my 2cents worth, my drivers side drl lasted almost 2 years before going out. I went to replace both drl's this past fall and busted the housing for the drivers side, :banghead: so needless to say I am still running with just the passenger side drl. Eventually I will take it up to the dealership I get them replaced. I also think it might be due to heat build upas the cause for teh drivers side going out early.
