Recommended Posts

Hey guys just curious how many of you use it or not.

I always used fueld injector cleaner and never had any problems. My brother told me he never uses it and that he heard it's not good to use.

So I'm confused :seeya: Do I or don't I????

I got a new bug shield for my truck :chevy: Have to put it on yet.

Picked up 400lbs of sand last night for the bed......we have a storm coming. :banghead:

Still need to get it back to the dealer for the 2nd repair attempt on the rattling exhaust system.

Hope everyone had a great holiday.

I have used Chevron Techron periodically. 2 cans in a full tank every 10K or so seems to help. I also usually stick to a few brands of fuel to keep the detergents at higher concentrations versus some of the el cheapo stations. I used to use Berryman's B-12 but decided that was a little too harsh for the fuel system (pump, rubber, seals, etc). I've got 135K on my Tahoe now so I don't think it is harming anything...no worse than my right foot does :chevy:

I recently read an article that described how the oil companies are not adding the right amount of additives to their gas as required by law since 80's ? to make sure fuel injectors stay clean. Only a few companies actually have the proper amount. I use and recomend sea foam available at napa and autozone. Can be used as fuel injector cleaner, gas treament, carbon remover and also can be used in the crankcase to clean the oil system. Good stuff. I use it in my motorcycle and truck.

Ive used the Techron stuff quite a few times in all of my previous vehicles but to tell you the truth, I couldnt tell a difference. Thats not to say it didnt work though.

As for the rattle in the exaust, if you have a stock muffler with the heat sheild in place, Ive had rocks get trapped between it and the muffler and rattle like crazy.

I've used BG products and Chevron Techron in the past, 1 can about every 5k. We've used the BG products at most of the dealers that I've worked at as part of the 5k interval services.

Most fuels have adatives in it already. I personaly don't use it. just adds to my fuel bill. But if I were to use it I would recomend 1 bottle every oil change.

Do you still have to sneak up on that ugly front end? :banghead:

I use Chevron Techron also about every 5-6,000 miles (Chevron makes the fuel injector detergent for GM,part#12345104)

I have been using Sea Foam since the truck had about 60,000 miles. It now has close to 130,000. I use it in the tank about every oil change, use it as a top end cleaner, and have put it in the oil. Truck still runs as smooth as the day I got it. That's my two pennies.

I don't use them and have talked with independent mechanics who own their business, and they tell me they are not needed and do nothing. The stealerhip will show you all kinds of glossy photos with a valve encased in carbon, then after the $69.99 treatment it looks like it just came off the assembly line. Read the claims carefully and you will notice they don't make guarantees that are worth anything. In my opinion, if it makes you feel good, throw some in, but don't spend more than the price of a six pack. :banghead:

Fuel injector cleaners do work - on GM Vortecs! And you don't need the expensive flush procedure that some corner garages offer such as the 3M or Snap-on pressurized systems. Sure, they work but you can get satisfactory results out of a cheap chain-store cleaner.

In the past, I've never noticed any difference with any injector cleaner on a conventional EFI system with external fuel rails. But I sure noticed it on the 96 and 97 GM Vortecs with the poppet injectors. I went for a long period - 3 years anyway without using any additives. These trucks see Chevron 89 octane exclusively (with the Techron additive). My boss brought in a case of injector cleaner from Kleen-Flo but instead of the diesel cleaner, we got the gas engine stuff instead (p/n 695). So he handed out bottles to everyone. Our shop cost was peanuts - maybe $2.50 each. Tossed it in the tank - figured it wouldn't hurt.

Well, 1/4 tank later I've suddenly get a whole bunch of extra snap on the throttle. Ordered a case! Put a bottle in my father-in-law's 97 and same thing. He really noticed the difference. Tried another bottle a couple of tanks after to see if something in the cleaner was tricking the O2 sensors but it had no further effect.

Bottom line - they do work, assuming you get the right product. Bottle says every 15,000km (10,000mi). That said, I've added a bottle of Techron ($$$) in the past and it didn't do it for me - no detectable difference.

Her is what GM says.

Info -Maintenance Cleaning of Fuel Injectors #04-06-04-051A - (Sep 3, 2004)

Maintenance Cleaning of Fuel Injectors

2005 and Prior All General Motors Passenger Cars and Trucks

2003-2005 HUMMER H2

This bulletin is being revised to add text for clarification. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 04-06-04-051 (Section 06 -- Engine/Propulsion System).

General Motors is aware that some companies are marketing tools, equipment and programs to support fuel injector cleaning as a preventative maintenance procedure. General Motors does not endorse, support or acknowledge the need for fuel injector cleaning as a preventative maintenance procedure. Fuel injector cleaning is approved only when performed as directed by a published GM driveability or DTC diagnostic service procedure.

Due to variation in fuel quality in different areas of the country, the only preventative maintenance currently endorsed by GM regarding its gasoline engine fuel systems is the addition of GM Fuel System Treatment, P/N 12345104 (in Canada, 89020804), added to a tank of fuel at each oil change. Refer to Corporate Bulletin Number 03-06-04-030A for proper cleaning instructions.

Important

The addition of GM Fuel System Treatment should not be necessary for those customers who exclusively use Top Tier Detergent Gasolines only. Refer to Corporate Bulletin Number 04-06-04-047A. :seeya:
