So..

 

-Lean burning engines are more fuel efficient and have lower emissions (in general, I guess).

 

-Torque management (combined with electronic throttle / MAF) allows an engine to be run in a lean state for a larger part of its normal operating cycle, giving the above benefits (better gas mileage and lower exhaust emissions).

 

-This paper was written to test / prove that TM could be used for the above (for a 4.6l engine- F**d?).

 

Did I miss anything or misunderstand it? (Uh, I mean of the above statements. Most of that techy scientific gobbledygook is beyond my ken, but I THINK the above is basically it)

 

GM seems to be using the same tech already, based on stuff I've read about our trucks running lean, electronic throttle control (er, do the NBS full-sizers have this? The Trailblazer I traded in on one definitely did), and TM logic GM uses.

Since reading this a few days ago. I have been "studying" up on Tq management. I have been looking for a company that can interface with the computer to disable the Tq management. I read about the new C6 Vette and it's Tq management. Test vehicles were given to the major magazines for testing before their release. These cars were running 12.60 to 12.70's stock. Come to find out Gm had the Tq managemnt disabled in the test vehicles for marketing purposes. A company called Cartek which is known for their Ls1 modifications purchased a new C6 for their company to get going with the Ls2 aftermarket parts. The best they ran in their C6 was 13.09 at 109 mph. Pretty much close to the C5 and Fbody Ls1 cars. However the cars were laying down 353 rwhp. (The torque management does not affect hp on a dyno). It only retards tiiming between shifts and right before and after the shift, II think also off of the line with a stomp of the pedal). Anyway, this will not effect rwhp #'s on a dyno. They finally got into the PCM and were able to interface with it. They got the car to 11.50's with the stock airbox. They only installed headers which they custom made.

Does anyone know if there is a company that does this for our trucks? Disabling Tq management??????????

Any of the aftermarket tuners can eliminate or lessen the torque management. Wester's is one you will see talked about here a lot. Nelson Performance is another that has a good rep and PCM's for Less is another. Just check out different performance websites and you will find lots of info on this.

 

FWIW, if I was going to do it I would go with Nelson.

GM uses both Engine Torque Management for Emissions improvements and Transmission Torque Management to increase its life. Tuning software like LS1Edit, HPTurners and the new Predator version allows for adjusting both.

Vhato- I purchased the HPP3 and it does absolutely nothing for tq management. I fooled around with the dual fuel tune and it made the truck run like a turd. The shift points and rev limiter did help though.

I am sure the HPP3 removes a SMALL amount of Transmission TM automatically when you select 1 of the 3 Engine programs. Not enough to really do anything though.
