2005 Steering Box Problems

Recommended Posts

I haven't heard of any "standard" problems with the steering box. Have only seen one with any problems. (Bypass valve stuck so power assist had no effect.

What "grease" are you talking about? There is no grease in the steering box that I'm aware of.

not sure, thats what someone said on here..i was just repeating what someone had said...I dont know anything about that...

this noise that I hear only does it when it wants to..I took it in the other day and let the rep drive it and it would not do it..as I was getting home and making a left turn onto my street the truck happen to make that noise....the dealer told me since it doesnt do it all the time that it was not a safety issue. I also told them that I was planning of lifting the truck and that I wans't sure if that would affect my warranty..he told me it would not be a problem with it...

The noise I experiece has only done it while making a left turn..again it doens't do it all the time..it sounds like it is coming from the steering wheel. The noise sounds like 2 pieces of metal rubbing together for a split second..then goes away..

I think the 2005s have the "fixed" intermediate shaft already. But the grinding noise. I wonder if it is related to the 37's M/T BF Goodrich on 17" Welds???? Maybe rubbing on something when the hard left turn is done.

Again a customer non NASA engineer does'nt see the post just reads into it what he wants and goes off on the wrong person. :chevy::D

Sounds like the same thing he accussed someone else of doing except the difference is one was trying to help albiet a little sarcasm. The other is just looking to personally attack.

vmaxup I would not take your vehicle to the dealer that answered a run problem question over the phone. There is no way to tell and everything is just a guess. You just assumed they would sell you injectors and not replace the fuel filter first. Some are service managers are educated some are not. He should have said worst case injectors. Maybe he did and you just saw red. :flag: But untill you took it in your statement they would screw you is wrong. Some are good some are not. The people on here are trying to help.

Actually the noise was before I put the 37's on my truck. Since I have lifted it, it was done it a couple times..sounds to me like it could be something with the bearings in the steering wheel

geeeeeeeeeeee

there are 2 common problems on my 1500 series.

1 is with the intermediate shaft

the other is with the steering box. the dealer will replace the entire steering box for a small valve inside that fails.

I lost my power assist to the right..
