3500 Duramax with 4.10 gears ?!?!?

Can somebody give me the scoop? I was recently optioning-out a truck on one of the websites (can't remember which one now) and the 4.10 was listed as an option on the 3500 Dmax. I thought you could only get 3.73 no matter what config.

Probably to combat Ford offering their PS with the lower gears. They did it to up the towing capacity probably.

Unless it was a G.M. website or you can confirm it with anoter website, I'd assume it's a mistake. It's not mentioned in the tow rating in my '05 owners manual or any of my sales literature I picked up before ordering my truck.

However, they should offer it and then increase the GCWR up to 26,000. We know the engine and transmissino can handle it because that's what the GCWR on the 4500s is.

I think it is a mistake. I have not read anything in the new 05 brochures about a 4.10 rear end with the DMax 3500. The only way you could justify having that low of gears is to be towing 100% of the time. These diesels redline at 3200 RPM. You would be pushing that at 80 mph. I don't know about you guys but when I hit the freeway I like to set my cruise control at 85 mph. Even then your fuel economy suffers quit a bit from just traveling at 70 mph. I can climb steep grades all day a 60 mph and get better mileage than going downhill on the freeway at 80 mph. I guess if you wanted your ratings on paper(ford) to look better you could go this route, but it doesn't seem practical to drive on the open road so reved out. Just my .02.

Good point, I didn't think of that. I'll try to find the source again and verify.

Thanks

I don't put much faith into configuring a truck using gmbuypower.com

I believe you can get the 3500 in 4.10 if u get the 6 speed trans. If you spec the allison then they put in the 3.73. Not 100% sure but I dod remeber reading it somewhere.

I think your thinking of the 8.1. If you get a 6 speed and the 8.1, you must get the 4.10, but if you get the auto and the 8.1, you have a choice of either the 3.73 or the 4.10.

However, at this time, all DMax trucks have 3.73 rear ends unless you get in to the 4500s and the 5500s.
