Thanks for your replies on my 2001 vs. 2002 post.

Looks like the bigger changes took place between 2002 and 2003.

Not that it's going to change my mind about the 2002 that I'm getting ready to buy.. but I guess I'd like to know what I'm missing..

Interior changes?

Duramax changes?

Anything else?

Thanks again..

While 02 was the year of hood bulge and most popular i might add, and 03 was the first year for a refreshen for the Chevy Silverado, they eventually used the same LB7 D/A Combo but in 04 that changed to the new LLY version which had 310 hp at 590 ft lbs of torque. As for the interior of the 02 and 03, nothing really changed mostly a up to date steering wheel and some other cooool feature's were added along.

As far as the LB7 goes it was pretty much unchanged between 02 and 03. Some minor improvements to the injector system made the pumps more reliable. As far as the Allison goes there were a few minor changes on it too. The pump is supposed to be a little bigger and now you can disable 5th gear from the Tow/Haul switch on the column. In 04 the LB7 was used until mid December of 03 then the LLY was introduced with 310 HP and 520 lb-ft of torque. These numbers were only available in 2nd 3rd and 4th gears with the Allison Tranny. 1st and 5th is "torque managed" at 300 HP and 520 lb-ft as per LB7. The 6 speed manual still uses the LB7. As far as interior there were quite a few additions available

XM Satellite Radio

Dual Zone auto/manual climate control

Reduntant radio controls

6-disc in dash changer

rear seat DVD

Freshened up guages, controls, console, seats, and colors

From the posts on the forum, the 03 LB7 seems to be very reliable and there are not many complaints at all. That is what I drive. I have driven the LLY and it is nice. As far as the power difference goes, it is very hard to tell. The LLY has the same numbers in first gear so the hole shot is pretty much the same.

The LLY had 310HP and 590 lb-ft torque. The torque increased to 605 for 2005.

Thanks guys..

I found a 2003 xcab Silverado, 21K miles, pretty much loaded (no XM, no OnStar, no Leather, no CD Changer). I negotiated the price down to $27K. kbb.org value is $31K and edmunds is $28K so I think it's a good deal.

Here's a pic of it from the dealer's website:

My friend works at a GMC dealer and pulled the service history on it and nothing major.. Intermediate steering shaft and a Park/Neutral switch have been replaced. No biggie.

I can't wait.. going to pick it up on Saturday.
