What size wrench do I need to buy in order to take off the neg battery terminal? I don't seem to have the right size and do not want to round the bolt.

Metric, forgot the size... It's even (not 7.5 or anything).

 

Get a set from at least 5-14 I think that covers the most common sizes on the trucks.

I think it is an 8 mm

They've been 5/16" for many many years.

8mm is 0.315" and 5/16 is 0.312", so either one will be close enough. That's probably one of the few bolts on your truck that is still standard!

5/16" is the correct size. The bolt is very soft and a 8mm wrench will round it off.

Get yourself the West Virginia Socket set. You may call it by the name of Vise-grips or locking pliers.

Everytime I come across a truck that has had vise grips used on the battery cables I want to punch whoever did it in the face.

I have something specially designed for the side mount terminal, most auto parts stores sell them, just look by the battery supplies.

Yeah, these are great tools to get since they rachet. Craftsman makes a good one.
