I had the pleasure of "buying" a pair of the new Silverstars yesterday. Part of which sucked because when I tried to buy the lights, I was almost tackeled by some stock clerk and had them yanked from my hands because he had to walk them to the counter. Aparently, they are a high theft item, but as I explained to him, if he ever grabbed anything from my hands again, he would be looking at me from the floor. Anyway, I finially got them home after the $39.99 price tag and installed them on my OBS with composite faded lenses (after removing the battery and the horn). I started the truck, and they looked great! Shortly after, I had to go to work for a night job, I did not notice any difference on my way in, but when I left at 1 AM, huge difference!! I love them, there is a difference between night and day. I would suggest the change, also Sylvania has a rebate on their web site.

Get used to buying them, because in 6 months you will be buying them again. I've gotten sick of replacing them and have since went back to factory bulbs. They are definately brighter when they work. Also I wouldn't count on the rebate, I've purchased at least 6 sets and have yet to recieve any rebate over the last 3-4 years.

Hmm, sounds like you have other issues, cause I had a set in my last rig for about 2 years. I put the hi and lo bulbs in my new truck and am again, very happy with them. They are the only way to go unless you spring for Xenon. I wish the factory would put them in stock. Now if they would just release the ones for the fog lights, all would be perfect....

I am curious which are better the sylvanias or the piaa lights???? While driving in town last night I saw a 99-02 chevy with some sweeeeeet lookin headlights. Extremely bright bluish. Not just the blue sylvanias or whatever that SUCK, looked better than any headlights I have ever seen. I should have flagged him down!

If someone could post some pics of their aftermarket lights that would be awesome.

I put the SS bulbs in my truck over two years ago. I replaced the highs and lows and added a harness to keep the lows on with the highs. I've read lots of complaints about the lifespan of the SS bulbs,but if they last over two years I can live with that. I also used a rebate for the SS,and had the rebate check back in less than a month.

Pretty good service if you ask me.

I have a set in my ugh, 4runner, that were installed 3 years ago, and they are still working well. Next sale I am buying a set for my 99 Tahoe. I think the SilverStars are the best bang for the buck!

I don't want to contribute to any negatives toward the Silverstars. They look very cool in the city lights and certainly give a marvelous appeal to the gee-whiz factor.

But, if one lives in the coastal regions and has to battle foggy and rainy weather, on very DARK curvy roads, a light with "function over style" might be more appealing. For me (and this is for me), the Silverstars were terrible (for me) in bad weather. The white-blue-white illumination bounced back into my eyes from the fog and rain while on the dark, curvy roads. In this regard, the ugly stock lamps did better illumination.

So, what to do (for me and my tastes). A company called Kennedy Diesel markets light booster kits, which includes wiring upgrades for the lamps, and 9005 / 9006 bulbs. These lamps are difficult, if not impossible to purchase at local American automotive stores. However, Kennedy sells them. These are not your laser-burning-through-the-woods light carvers, but are 30% brighter, and they do work!

The bulbs are Philips Premium bulbs (not to be confused with the identical-appearing bulbs that come from the factory install from GM). Kennedy markets these bulbs to use with their kits. Typically, they can only be purchased in the UK and Germany. Kennedy sells them at $20.00 per bulb.

The link below takes you to the Kennedy Diesel site to the descriptor for the bulb. While there, there are also products to upgrade the wiring. You new guys will always want things that are brighter and one of the common projects is to beef up the wiring. I haven't purchased a lighting upgrade kit, because to be frank, my lights are bright enough.

We had rain for the last month solid and to tell you the truth, I didnt notice any problems with vision, but I do live in the big city so light typically is there anyway. I have on my old truck driven in the black desert nights on many occasion and loved the visability but usually with no rain (as it hardly ever rains here cept for the last month...lol). Good points for people in your area though...

I had them in my blazer and now in the truck and I do love them, although I will admit in dense fog they are an issue. I get massive bounce back off of very reflective road signs sometimes too, but I can also see those signs extremely far away now. As for fog that's why I installed yellow bulbs in my fogs and am in the process of putting yellow film on them as well. In fog I pop on those babies and disable the headlights and I'm golden (no pun intended).

I had both my fogs go with less than a year since install. I barely ever use them and called Sylvania to complain. Shipped them back and got a new set shipped out to me. Lows and Highs working great.

I have the kennedy diesel headlight kit, checked voltages etc. and just like clock work in six months time first one will quit, so I replace it. Then between 1-2 weeks later the other will go. Maybe I just drive to much in the dark Of course its probably like everything else I buy problems. typical bad luck!
