Swaping Gas Tanks

I am trying to find out if anyone has done this before or knows if it can be done.

There is an optional 34 gallon tank for my truck; however, I've only seen this tank on the standard cab, long bed trucks.

I've got a 24 gallon and I want to put the 34 gallon in my truck. But, I dont have a standard cab, long bed. I've got a ext cab shortbed truck. It "appears" that overall length is not a problem. The problem I can see is a crossmember infront and below my 24 gallon tank, and on the trucks with the 34 gallon tank, the crossmember goes over the tank.

Any ideas??

For those really creative put thee spare in the bed and put in a Tahoe/Suburban tank. What about another tank on the passenger side.with a hose and vent connecting the two? (Probably harder than adding one bigger tank.)

I want to remind you that any change in the fuel system will be subject to OBD2 and if not properly done will set the SES. Also you have in some states emissions testing and you might not pass. Extra fuel means more weight and less fuel economy. Also do you really want to compromise you vehicle incase of an accident it could be a disaster. :banghead:

I don't think the vendors who specialize in fuel tank upgrades are even allowed to sell unless their product is in full compliance. This includes compliance for the bed type tanks as well as replacing the factory tanks. One can't merely just weld up a tank, run a couple of pipes and be good. Those old days are gone.
