2002 & 2005 airbox differances

I have a 2002hd 8.1 and the air box pulls air from the inside of the fender

and my 2005hd 6.6 has a airbox with the side open and a foil covering the hole

on the fender. What box is better between the two stock ones?

zach01,First of all welcome to the board

Second,I can't really answer which one is better but what I can tell you is unless you go with a performance air intake (K&N FIPK,Volant,Airaid,etc.) and they tell you to DON'T remove the piece of foil thats on there,GM had a bulletin out a few years ago on this, they were having trouble with the air filters getting clogged with water coming in through that hole in the fender,so instead of making two different fenders (one for gas,one for diesel) they make one and block the hole with the foil for diesels.

Again if you go with a "Cold-Air-Intake" system they may have you remove it but I'm not sure,I would have to look at my buddys DMAX that he put a K&N FIPK on and see but I'm sure alot of the guys on here can tell you that.
