SEARCHING messages

Recommended Posts

Guys, the search engine at this site can unlock a LOT of stored and archived information. However, it is limited in that it requires the word to be at least four characters in size. Words such as hot, oil, DIC are unsearchable on this board, for example. I have tried inserting the words within quotes, but that doesn't seem to help.

So... trying the advanced features of GOOGLE, I found that Google will search any site using this syntax:

subject site:URL

So, if I want to search for ''hot'' at gm-trucks, I would type in GOOGLE's search field:

hot site:http://www.gm-trucks.com

Likewise for oil:

oil site:http://www.gm-trucks.com

And, if multiple words work, such as: "hot oil"

hot oil site:http://www.gm-trucks.com

So, maybe this is old info for many, but it was new for me!

Yeah, I agree. That particular search constraint sucks.

Google is the #1 search engine for a reason. I find work related documents 10 times as fast with it, rather than using our (purpose designed) in-house "knowledge management" tools.
