My Idea for my next mod

Alright, I'm trying to upgrade the whole feel of the interior of my truck.  So I'm thinking next I'm going to have to upgrade the sound system.  I'm not looking to upgrade the speakers yet, but for now I was thinking of an affordable headunit and a CD changer.  What have the rest of you done on your new body styles (or old)???  I'm probably going to budget myself no more than 450 for the head unit and changer combined (I know I'm cheap).  Any suggestions???

i would go with an alpine , they have the most power out there right now for a head ubit (60x4 max)

not to mention plenty of options for when you do expend the system

as of right now i have a panasonic that i love but will be replaced with an alpine when it dies

one piece of advice i can give though is find one you like then check ebay i bet youll find it alot cheaper:)

It depends on what your ultimate goal is.  If you just start adding components without thinking ahead you will end up with a lot of peices to a puzzle that just don't fit well together.  It took me several years to piece my system together.  As of now I'm done.  (to be read as, I got married and am not allowed to spend any more money on my stereo)

I have a Premier DEX-M88.  It is an in dash CD player with no internal amp and the tuner is a seperate add on.  It cost $900 when I bought it 6 years ago.   I run that signal out to my RF 400x4 that pushes my Focal DVC 7" and TK-120 highs.  Daisy chainged to that amp I have a RF 200 pushing four JL 8w6's under the rear seat.  Somewhere in the mix there is a Audio Control eq and x-over.

If you want ease of operation, factory look, and great sound and flexibity, go with the DEH 77.  I love it!  Don't be fooled by anyones numbers for built in power though.

I have one set of pre outs for my external amp running my Clarion Pro Audio front speakers, the sub pre out running my amplified sub and the rear channel power running the rear factory speakers (just  for filler sound).

There is a DEH one notch below that doesn't have quite as many features and of course is less money.  It is still an exact fit though.

I have a couple of alpine cd players.  The newest one is 3 years old.  My 93 has 50x4 power and it's the best I've seen so far.  I recommend getting some component speakers too.

Redsierra:  Did you have to use a installation kit with your Pioneer?  OR does it snap in the like the factory head?

Eclipse. it'll out last any of the others, better sound quality and if you buy from a authorized dealer eclipse will replace the deck if it gets stolen (part of their ESN).

cost more yes, but well worth it if you like quality.

There is a kit for the Pioneer but all that it consists of is a set of "rails" so that it slides in just like the factory one.  Super easy!

I was looking around at crutchfield.com and it says that they have installation kits that are included free w/ each component.  Does this mean that it's just plug and play type set up???  Also, what does adding a cd changer to a stereo consist of???

you can get  fm modulated changers or hard wired changers,

mine hard wired because I don't like the FM ones.

Mines a Pioneer 12 disc with 60sec shock.

It just plugs into the back of the pioneer unit.

I'm thinking about biting the bullet and spending 300 on the pioneer DEH77.  It's more than I want to spend, but I like the fact that it looks factory and in my opinion doesn't have all weird colors and such to make it look obtrusive.  So, I'll have to put off a cd changer for awhile.  Is there a remote available for this that attaches to the steering wheel.  I like the way those look and it would actually be usefull.

doesn't come with a steering mounted remote I think  but me and another guy is trying to come up with a set up for one tho.
