new front pinion seal still leaks around yoke

Hey Guys

 

I am new here. I have a 95 z71 I am guessing it is a heavy half because the first seal I brought for the pinion seal was too small so I had to order the bigger one. But anyway it still leaks around the yoke (I guess that is what you call it). I used to have a 82 3/4 ton ford before and I brought a sleeve for the yoke to fix that exact problem. Do they sell a sleeve anywhere for the chevy or do I have to buy a new yoke?

sounds like fun, I put sleeves on quite often and i'm sure if you took your yoke into someplace like napa or carquest they will measure it and be able to get you the correct one.

When you had the yoke removed, did you look at the surface on the yoke shaft that the seal rides on? If it has any grooves or ridges or rough edges, the new seal will not work.

 

I usually get some emery cloth or 200 grit sand paper and polish the yoke shaft where the seal rides to make sure the new seal seats properly. If you cannot get a smooth surface for the new seal, you will have to replace the yoke with a new one.
