Lots of Driving..

Hey..

Well i left thrusday for Central City, KY in the silverado to pick up some equipment there..  I picked up a U-Haul trailer and brough the equipment across the border.. Took roughly 13 hours to get there and about 15 to get back because of a few accidents on I 71 and I 75 and of course the LOVELY CONSTRUCTION!! ..The trailer was rated for 2600 pounds and i know i had that and some..  Total trailer weight including the trailer itself was around 4500 pounds..

I had one question.. Whats is the rated towing for the silverado 1/2 ton?? The tranny had one or two harsh shifts up steep hills along I 65 and 71 along KY..  The truck really didnt know it was on when it was pulling but the trailer was maxed out..

OH well it feels good to be back home and back on the forum

Chev4ever - The really knowledgeable guys seem to vanish into mid-beer....I mean mid-AIR on the weekends so you are stuck with me!  Heres the towing info (as listed by Chevrolet)info listed for the 2001 Silverado 1500's, hope this helps.

How are the gas prices in comparison from Toronto and Cleveland, and Central City, after figuring the exchange rate, aye?  Glad you had a good trip and made it home safe-

Newbies' numbers are pretty good  (Way to go Newbie!!!).  The nimbers change some for engine and gearing options but you were well within the trucks capabillities.  Were you using the Tow/Haul option??? It can create some hard shifts because of increased line pressure.

Ya 28 hours roughly and around 2500 kilometers..  I was proud that i left thrusday morning at 10 got there at 11:30 pm then left the company in KY at 11am on friday morning got to the border at 12pm,  then made it home by 3:30 am..  It was way easier crossing back from the border with US equipment than crossing from Canada to US..  They made me pull over and they searched my truck they though i had drugs.. That killed an hour easially..  When i came back only problem was i didnt know how to fill out a few forms but once they knew i wasnt a trucker they were very helpful..

I had 160 bucks US for gas going down and i only spent 100 of it *gotta love that 5.3* not sure what the conversion really i wish i could spend 30 dollars on a regular basis filling up my truck.. I filled it up just past the border and it costed me 55 dollars from the US's 31..  If you were to do the US conversion on the 31 i should pay 48 CDN *big difference*

Still very glad to be back home... espeically glad to be back on the forum..

I d also like to add one note... And everyone who has pulled anything with weight behind them will agree that they hate people who just have to get in front of you and stop..  A few times i had to either practically lock them up or swerve desperately without losing the trailer to miss these morons who arent paying attention to the road..  Anything bigger than a pickup stayed out of my way it was just those little cars that i would have easily made even smaller if i hit them.. The truck drivers knew i was pullin something heavy because one guy commented on the CB that the trailer tounge was sittin pretty low.. I know it was only sitting less than a foot of the road and the front tires of the trailer were inches away from the fenderwalls..  I didnt need an accident in another part of the country but... i just wish people would pay attention..

I find those idiots driving cars to be a problem even when I'm not pulling a trailer. Trucks just don't have the stopping distance of cars, and I've noticed that other truck drivers don't tend to cut me off like car drivers do. One of these days, I'm gonna put a foghorn on my Avalanche! That'll wake the fools up!

I agree with that as well..  Its like these people think we can stop on a dime by how they drive..  Or you get the people who are comming on to a highway to get on the highway when there doing half the speed limit while your trying to get by them..

I dont know if anyone here got stuck on the I75 southbound through OH. because there was a major accident that i was guessing people would be waiting mininum 3-5 hours to get by..  Luckly i was northbound but the lineup was amazing to see because it kept going and going and going... Almost everyone was walking up to see the accident or sitting on there cars waiting..  Just hope no one else got screwed into sitting there...
