PCV Valve rattle?

Changed my PCV valve. I remember readin that the new GM valves didnt have any internal parts and did not make a rattle. This new purolator one I got rattles. Should I get a dealer valve?

If you don't want it to rattle, then yeah... Or you could get a quality PCV valve (purolator sucks these days). The last one I got was from NAPA. There house brand PCV valve does not rattle at all. Of course it cost about double what the purolator and other cheapy/rattle traps cost.

The ones that you get from most parts houses will be the rattle kind. The improved GM ones conserve oil...and are hollow, just a hole straight thru. If your truck came with one of those...there is no need to change those (nothing to clog).

I actually switched back to the sring and plunger style PCV from the fixed orifice design after I installed my catch can. The fixed orifice pcv made an annoying whistle with the catch can hooked up, and still let a substantial amount of oil by anyway. That PCV design is more of a band-aid than a solution anyway...I was never to hot on the "design" I just check my catch can regularly and drain out what's in there.

It's a filter and reservoir set-up that goes inline with the PCV system to catch the oil and moisture that is sucked through. AMW makes a nice one that's kinda pricey, but worth every cent IMO (about $90). I had a homemade one at first that had an air-line water separator/oil filter (a guy at ls1tech.com had a how to thread), but after a few hundred miles oil started to get through. So far my AMW has worked flawlessly (about 3K of useage). Here's a link to AMW's website:

does anyone know the part number for the fixed orifice PCV valve? and can i use it on my 2000 yukon that came with the PCV valve that has the moving part in it?

 

my yuk recently started using some oil -- mabye 1/2 to 1 quart every 3000 miles -- at about 87,000 miles. never used a drop before that.

GM part number is 12572717 (AC-Delco#CV4000C)

And yes,You can use it on your 2000 Yukon.
