Stock gear ratio for 01 Suburban

Any of you know the stock gear ratio on a 2001 Chev Suburban. I just had my Sub lifted 6 inch ( Fabtech) running 16 x 10 Weld Mountain Crushers w/ 305-70 tires. How do I determine what new axle ratio to get?

Check the RPO sticker in your glove box. The codes to look for are GU4-3.08 Ratio, GU6-3.42 Ratio, GT4-3.73 Ratio, GT5-4.10 Ratio and G80- Locking differential Rear.

Is your Burban a 1/2 or 3/4 Ton? I have an 02 3/4 ton Burban with a 6.0 litre, 4.10 gears and 295/75/16 BFG AT's (33.5" tall)on 16x8 Eagle series 194 Wheels and an RCD lift. I have no problem with these tires and the 4.10s.Your tires are about the same height, just and just a little wider than mine. It would be easier to answer if I knew your gear ratio and whether your Burban is a 1/2 or 3/4 ton.

Jacson,

Thanks for the info. I have a 1/2 ton. I will check my glove box in the morning to find out. Currently, my brakes are in stock. I feel I don't have any problems, but I hear it is advisable to have bigger brakes. Is your brakes in stock form?

You likely have a 3.73 and if you change I would change to a 4.56 with 305's as it will be about a ideal combo and provide good performance with good MPG in OD and good OD performace as well and give you back a true 4 speed tranny with 4 truley usable gear in it.

The 3/4 ton Burban has larger brakes than the 1/2 ton, so I don't have any braking issues with my truck. You will also have the 5.3 which has about 40 less horsepower than the 6.0. I was thinking you could go to 3/4 ton brakes but I forgot that 3/4 tons are 8 lug and I think you have 6 lug. Also, I do agree with snoman that if you do have 3.73 gears and you want to change them go to 4.56's, but IMHO if you have 4.10's then give them a try first and if you don't have a lot of power then go to the 4.56's. Hope this helps
