Ok guys hopefully someone can help me out. Basically I signed up for MLB Audio (listen to baseball games online through media player or real player). I would like to listen to them outside in the garage or in the living room. Only problem is I have to drag my laptop and stuff downstairs or outside. Is there anyway to have it play from my computer through a radio or tv (Downstairs or in the garage?)

 

Kinda like an FM Modulator. I tried radio shack and they only had one that would work within a few feet.

 

Please help I need to listen to the cubs and dont want to be locked in my office all summer

I just found these quickly, its only 12' though. You might need a couple of them and then I don't know 36'

Are you looking to do this thing wirelessly? (i.e. no wires run from office to downstairs/garage)

 

Also, do you have a wireless router at home?

 

And finally, how much are we willing to spend here?

Buy really big speakers.

 

Or, go buy one of those cheapo $300 computers, and put it in the garage. That's what I did. Well, I bought the computer, I haven't set it up yet.

 

The wireless router stuff is a good idea, but can get expensive really quickly when you start getting into the different adapters. Just the Xbox wireless adapter costs about $100 by itself, and that's without the router. I'm sure speaker adapters would be just as pricey.

Well, a PC in the garage is a great idea. Find someone with a five-year-old computer (preferably with USB ports and an ethernet port) that wants to get rid of it. You can buy a wireless router under fifty bucks if you look hard enough, and you can sometimes find wireless USB adapters for twenty bucks after rebates. Those two things, along with the old computer, would be all the hardware you need.

BTW, you don't need wireless G. Go with wireless B. It's cheaper, and you'll never need that extra speed if all you're doing with your network is making sure all your computers have internet access (the fastest internet speeds are 3mbps, and wireless B is 11mbps--wireless G's 54 mbps is expensive overkill which will never increase internet performance)

Oh, and while we have your attention...GET RID OF REALPLAYER!

If you really, really need to play Real media, use Real Alternative, it should play everything that RealPlayer does, without all that pesky invasive crap. RealPlayer shares your information with darn near everybody...It's even in the user agreement that they're going to do exactly that.

 

RealPlayer is borderline spyware. Just try removing it, and see how many places on your PC it put itself, and what it's doing.

XM carries MLB games this year. Might be less expensive to get an XM boombox or skyfy unit and subscribe to the service. I know how it is being a dedicated fan, and I've been extremely happy hearing all of my Braves games so far this season on XM. Gameday audio from MLB.com is limiting...this is the only reason I didn't sign up for it.

I just installed a computer in my car, lol. So that I could play all of my .mp3 audio and have GPS navigation and DVD and anything else that I wanted. It also has Wireless internet, when I hit a hotspot, which I can find within a mile it seems like of anywhere that I might need it.

 

With the computer, I am not limited to anything and I have a 7" Touch Screen Monitor mounted. I love it. Works awesome.

Seems like it would if the range will work. Can't find anything on the web that gives a range for the things. Of course, the more obstruction (walls,floors, etc) the shorter it will be--if you CAN find a range quote, it will likely be an optimal/unobstructed range quote.

Etronics had (and might still have) a Pyle PLMD7 for pretty cheap. Might do the trick. Around $20.

Id just go wireless and hook it up to a A/V reciever in the garage.
