thinking about a body lift

Recommended Posts

Well, I was going to get a rancho suspension lift and run some 33's and then thought, why waste the extra couple grand when I can run 33's on a 3" bodylift and always add a suspension lift later for some added height.  I've just got some ???'s about it.  I'm guessing Performance Accesories is the brand to get and I know it comes w/ everything you need.  How hard is the install?  I'm guessing set aside a whole day, maybe two to do it.  Any problems w/ them?   What tools do you need for it?   I guess I would be able to do some other upgrades to my truck and get a lifted look w/o laying down thousands of dollars.

Thanks for the link ryan, I've been looking at body lift info for about two years, but never paid much attention since I figured I would get a suspension lift.  But, looking at cost, I may have to cheap out and get the body lift.  That way I should be able to lift it, run the stock tires down and get some 33's and new rims this summer.

TAKE it to crank & chrome.  Only takes 20 min to install.  (they left alot of stuff outta the show)

So here's my plan now for the truck to do by the end of the summer.

3" trailmaster Body Lift w/ Gap Guards

33" XTerrain Tires on American Eagle Rims

Adding a suburban center console w/ rear audio controls

Leather seat covers

Overhead Console

PIAA Air Dam w/ Driving Lights

HPPIII

I think I should be able to do this.  The body lift will run me about 300 w/ gap guards and shipping.  My cousin knows how to install them so I should be able to do it for the cost of beer.  The tires and rims will run me about 1100, but I'll probably put a few more miles on my current tires, or save them for winter.  And then the rest of the stuff will be about 1400.  I think if I spend my money wisely I should be able to do all of this by the summer.  I'll probably get a new sub console first, then the body lift & new air dam, and then the rest towards the end of summer.

This is going to be close, I still can't forget that I'm driving to Michigan and to Florida this summer with my friends too.  Might have to do the seat covers later unless I get a raise.

Anyone know what back spacing I would need on the rims?  I want to start finding the best deals now and figuring out just how much this will break me.  Right now I can get the tires/rims for just under a grand w/ free shipping.  But, I don't have the money.  Oh well, I'm sure 4wheelparts will have a deal on them again.

There is some info on installing body lifts on my site under Info/Tech>Tods Info>Body Lift>

Let me know what you find out about the back spacing.  I am looking @ getting some AE 143's..

Don't worry Chane, I printed that out last night.  I think I should be able to tackle this w/ an assist from my friends and the truck forums.  I figure it'll run me less than 1500 for the Body lift and tires, so that's not too bad.  I think I'll put the B/L on, check to see if the PIAA Air Dam will fit w/o any problems.  And don't worry, many pics will be posted.

Still no word on backspacing.

Yes, please post lots of picks and how about some step by step instructions on your website??

Let us know where you run into trouble and how long it takes and etc.  I might add a lift later.  I am just concerned about how much frame will be showing after.  The HD already has alot of frame showing!  I don't know if some nurfs will cover it up on an HD.

Yeah, you can be assured that my site will be full of pics and info.  Right now I've got about 4 or 5 months at least to gather information, save up money, and figure out the best way to go about this.  I want to use the PIAA air dam becuse it has the super huge openings and so far everyone thinks that you can get away w/ a lot less trimming of the frame horns and air dam if you get it.  No ones done it yet, so I'll probably be the first one to try it out.

Chane, here's an HD w/ a body lift.  As far as showing frame it doesn't look bad at all to me.  I think Nerf bars would do a great job of hiding them.

Yeah that looks awesome!  I have looked at 8100HD's before and it looks good!.  The air dam doesn't look trimmed like alot of them around here do.

How about some close up pics of the frame/undercarrage 8100HD?  Any tips on how the install went?

How do you get into that thing w/no steps??  I have a hard time getting into mine w/out the lift..  You should see my wife..  hehe

Also, I don't like the way the hitch and tailpipe in the back looks after the lift.  Would have to get some custom duals.  Thats more $$ to your cost..

Believe it or not I have a seen a new Z71 around here w/a body lift and full running boards!!  hehe..  The duals and hitch hang @ stock hight.  Looks like #%%#$

my duals sit up pretty high as is so w/ the body lift they could easily be modified to shoot striaght out the back.  My hitch is also aftermarket and if it looks really our of place I can always take it off.  Who knows, that's why I hope to do it in the beginning of summer, that way I've got a few months to mess around w/ it and get everything perfect.  I think I'll make some custom lift lips in the rear and get them sprayed at the local arma coatings where I got my bed liner done.  The guy does a great job and doesn't charge a lot.

a kid at my school is running 33x12.5 Xterrains with a PA 3" bl with 4.5" of backspace on 16x10 rims i do believe, doesnt look half bad  :)   ive actually grown to like stock height (i know that sounds retarded) but the bodylifted trucks look very good also.

Sorry Jon, you can't do that.  Someone else has probably already done it.  You don't want to make anyone mad.   ;)  :)
