Time for brakes.

Right now I have about 70,000 miles on the stock OEM brakes and rotors (02 1500 xtnd cab Z71 LS). I'm in the market for some new stuff and was wondering if ya'll may have some suggestions? I do tow a 20 ft car hauler and a fbod from time to time, but otherwise I use it to get back and forth to work 4 out of 5 days. Typically I would just run down to the local parts store and pick up some stuff, but figured I'd see if any of you that have done this have any better options with out getting too crazy

TIA

I love my Praise Dyno brakes...cheaper than OEM and stops on a dime with no noise and very little dust. I got all 4 slotted rotors, front and rear pads, and ceramic ebrake shoes shipped to my door for less than $740. For what it worth, the whole deal's cryogenically treated and performance oriented.

where did you look for oem parts? I just bought all new oem rotors and pads on ebay for $160. Even looking at other places online (gmpartsdirect, etc) I was no where near $740 - maybe half of that.

I was pretty happy with the oem stuff, decent performance and good longevity - 80k+ on the rears, and 110k+ on the fronts...

I second Praise Dyno Brake...my kit is on the way. The OEM brakes are crap, no matter how cheap they are...you get alot more performance from Praise Dyno.

Man, for $740 you better get more than just performance. They should fly out and install them for you. Brakes are brakes, unless you drive a race car. Stick with OEM.

Maybe for a truck, but not for us full-size SUV owners--especially those of us running 20" or larger wheels, performance mods that help your vehicle go faster than before, and/or pulling lots of weight. Even if OEM brakes were somehow adequate, I'd challenge you to argue that getting proven better aftermarket performance brakes isn't gonna improve braking performance over OEM. Heck--some brake kits offer about a 20-ft. improvement in braking distance over OEM from 60-0; some folks might think 20 feet isn't that big a number given the price of purchasing aftermarket brakes, but when you think about it...20 feet is roughly one car length. And when you consider that even a few feet could mean the difference between no damage and/or injury and a insurance claim...I personally wouldn't ignore aftermarket just because "brakes are brakes"...regardless of what type of vehicle you drive.

I'm with Bud, I have replaced rotors 4 times and the first time I use the brakes, they warp. I got tired of the constant wobble after spending $200 a pop to redo the front brakes. The Praise Dyno set-up has not warped and my truck stops much better than stock. My set-up for the front only, rotors and pads was $350.

Well...judging from the fact that after only 40,000 miles my brakes look like dog sh$%...you might want to re-think that. :D

Im on the OEM side of the fence but NOT opposed to spending extra for a good aftermarket upgrade IF they are proven to outperform the stock stuff. For many drivers that dont drive their trucks hard and wait till the last second to slam on the brakes, I think the stock stuff is good. Heck he already said he got 75K mi on them so how bad is that? Obviously he doesnt race around and ride his brakes hard so for him to upgrade would probably be a waste. Now guys like Black Z, which by looking at his rig you can tell he has some fun behind the wheel (reg cab with upgraded performance wheels and rear exaust tells me he enjoys the sporty side of trucking) would be better off with an upgrade. Thats my $.03 and Im stickin to it..... :D
