Anybody know how to disable Automatic Headlights??

I like the Daytime Running Lights (DRL), but I despise the Automatic Headlights. There has to be a way to "confuse" the truck into thinking that it's always light out. Anybody know how?

I've tried disconnecting the light sensor and putting in a link between the wires, but the headlights just stayed on 24-7. I tried disconnecting a bunch of the DRL fuses in the main fusebox. . again, nothing.

If anyone could help me, I'd appreciate it much!!! THANKS!!!

Install One 1.5K ohm 1/2 watt resistor (Radio Shack, $0.49 for a package of 5) in place of the light sensor not a jumper wire between the wires.

BLACK............For complete instructions on how to disable

the DRLs and auto-ons like BB mentioned above with the

resistor check out http://www.lightsout.org

Very easy, NO tearing apart anything and it can be done under

the dash off the BCM in minutes.

Worked for me on my 01 !............geo

A lot of insurance companies give some discount for the safety feature you are disabling. Hope you don't have an accident where witnesses say your lights were not on.

THANK YOU BBSilverado! That's exactly what I hoping to hear. I was so frustrated when the jumper wire didn't work - it didn't make sense. I'll give a shot this weekend!

I still have never understood why anyone would want to disable the automatic headlights.... I think that is a great feature. Same with DRLs... The only thing I could think of is if you were trying to outrun the law at night, and you could not puch the dome light override three times.

Everyone has their own likes and dislikes. I hate DRL's and pulled the fuse to get rid of them. I like the auto headlights, one less thing to think about. A guy I work with is a ford lover, he bought a chevy because of the body style changes ford made. When they redesigned the body he traded the chevy and went back to ford. He told me the only thing he misses is the auto headlights.

Me neither. In fact, I want to add it to my cars that don't have it.

LIGHTS ON FOR SAFETY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a CROCK !!!!!!!!!!!!

I ride my motorcycles with the lights on.........................Most A******S

will STILL run you down !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I snow plow with a LOAD of headlights, flashers, plus yellow roof beacon

flashing day or night...............

Do most of these IDIOTS pay attention ???????????......NOPE!

My POOR neighbor sure does (good guy too) when my truck sits for

HOURS either defrosting, heating up or cooling down.

He LOVES all those DRLs, auto ons shining in HIS windows at 3 am.

daily.................

YES, There are times when lights on work and increase the safety

factor.....................BUT............Go hug a tree !..... :)

Sorry. Couldn't help myself. You're right any more. With or without lights most people act as if they can't see you.

Still I really like when it's evening, I'm driving west, the sun is just over the edge of the mountains in my eyes, there's shadow from those mountains over the road in front of me, and there are cars coming toward me (two lane undivided roads). I can easily see the ones with their lights on. The rest blend into the shadows because my eyes have adjusted to the bright sun..

Edit: The same thing happens in the mornings when I'm headed east on the same roads..

I like my DRL's, but I'm not a fan of the auto headlights since the dome light dance doesn't work on 99's. I wired an LED in place of the photodiode to make mine manual...did it right at the BCM, took about 5 minutes.

My reason for wanting control of the lights is basically...what if I want to turn them off? There are times when you don't need your lights on...like when the truck is parked and idling(sp?) and the lights are shining in someone's living room window. With the 99's, the vehicle has to be started with the e-brake set for the headlights to be off, then once you release the e-brake, they come on, and stay on. Have to shut it off again and reset the brake to get em back off. I'd rather just turn them on and off myself.

    • Are you going to take long trips in it?  If so, try out the seats in the various trims. For me the lower trim level seats were not comfortable.
    • I have a 2016 that I bought new and still own. I'm around 129,000 miles now. The biggest problem was a transmission failure about 2 years ago around 95000 miles. No warning, just failed while driving down a back road. A reman GM transmission installed and it's been fine ever since. A few other minor problems along the way. I am in no hurry to replace it. It's been paid off long ago and do plan on driving this as long as I can.   I will admit I am leery about all the additional electronics in the newer models and feel that it is just more potential problems. I think there's actually more than I would have wanted in this 2016 but so far so good. I think even if something major like lifter failure happened, it would still be cheaper to at worst, drop a new engine in than buy a new vehicle.
    • I’ve own several successful businesses. I’ve bought homes and lived in different states. I’d witness several generations buy homes and survive in different economic circumstances. You get awful sippy when people have different experiences than you do. You live a life. I’ve lived a life. It seems our experience has been different. You can point out generalized statistics. Some people learn how to thrive when the odds are against them. Living in different states does make a difference in a persons quality of life and economic outcomes and opportunities. That’s a fact Jack. It’s my truth, my life. Hard work and long hours the right environment made my families life easier. And yes moving to a different state increased the odds of that happening. Stats are generalized. People who thrive don’t make excuses. They beat the odds. Others get mad and point to those statistics. I guess that’s you. My post pointed out how you helped people beat the odds. Somehow your panties got in a wad. Go figure.
