Hi all

I have moved recently into the US with a 2002 Chevy Venture . Local dealer told me they can't trade in my van because the odometer is in kilometers :)

QUESTION:

Since I'm still under warranty coverage is there any place where I can get my digital odometer converted to miles?

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your reply and your link. I'm located in Illinois, if I can't find something closer I guess I will have a trip to Michigan  .

Look in the yellow pages. Somewhere in Illinois there is a speedo repair.

Where did you buy this van?

Also this would not be warrenty.

There surely has to be a easy fix to this because with todays digital odometers I cannot image that it is not just a matter or a Jumper, dip switch or such and not require major modification. It "might" even be possible thru programing because GM would keep it simple to keep down production costs.

Yes you are right. The cluster is programmed at the assembly plant and the only way is to take it too a service center since there are fed. laws on speedo tampering. After the change the vehicle must have a sticker attached to the drivers door telling that there was a change. The cluster must be taken out of the vehicle for this .

That makes sense about the tampering sticker too.

Thank you all for responding.

I got some help from GM Goodwrench at 1-800-222-1020 :tear:

One of the local dealers here has been contacted, they can do it, it's a programming work that needs to be certified.

This needs to be done only if the actual miles can't be determined when setting it in the odometer. If the mileage being programmed into the odometer is the true mileage, the sticker isn't required.

I'm the original owner of this van I purchased in canada so I shouldn't lose my :tear: warranty.

VENTURE..................As long as YOU purchased the vehicle

brand new.

The mfr. new car warranty is in effect no matter where you live.

If your not.............NO warranty !!!!! (most mfrs.)

Remember when you change out the speedo/odo your vehicle

title will be branded True Mileage Unknown or some such.....

effecting its value !

Check the car sales folks at Edmunds.com for details.

I live along the US-Canadian border and see this a lot !

Lots of ex-Can. late models running around with swapped

speedos w/official NY changeout stickers on door jambs in

my area of NY!.........

Job done, local :chevy: dealer removed the cluster and reprogram the digital odometer from 53,665 km to 33,272 Miles, not really cheap :D $325 for the cluster and $100 labor.

Now I can :) safely in the :flag: sort of ....
