shift transmission indicator adjustment + obd port

My first post on this forum...Sorry it has to be asking for help.

I just bought at a seziure auction a 2000 silverado LS 2WD that needs some work (salvage/rebuilt title). For some reason the shift indicator does not show the correct setting (e.g. shifter in park position but indicator shows reverse). All of the gears and overdrive seem to work fine. Is there a way to adjust this setting? I had a problem where the truck won't turn over (lights come on, fuel pump clicks on) that I think is related to this setting (e.g. the truck won't start in drive or reverse).

Also my OBD II port does not appear to be active. I have the low end snap-on scanner and when I plug it in it receives power from the port but does not get the data stream. I have looked at the connector under the dash and it appears ok. Is there a way I can trace this port back to the computer? Since this truck is a rebuild I suspect that maybe not everything got plugged in/connected back right. (the abs light comes on every once in a while and the airbag light stays on).

Once final thing...the cruise control does not work (does not set or show any indication of being on). Where is the cruise module located at under the hood or is there even a module/selenoid these days?

There's a special tool we use to adjust these. Never done it without it so I couldn't say how you'd go about adjusting the neutral switch other than to just keep moving it and trying it to see if it indicates correctly.

There's a splice pack under the left side of the instrument panel where all the data lines are linked together, including the one for the DLC. Can't give you an exact location other than to say it's taped to a harness. It's just a flat connector with about a dozen wires, each of a different color, in it. It's a dead end connector, not one that has wires coming out both ends.

If you have electronic throttle control (no cable from the pedal to the throttle body) then there is no cruise module. Otherwise, it's under the hood on the bulkhead on the driver's side.

Thanks for the response. Where is the neutral safety switch? Is it the steering column?

The neutral switch is on the side of the trans. The selector shaft that comes out of the trans goes right through it. Look for it at the end of the shift cable. You can't miss it. It's a big, flat, black switch.
