truck horns

Recommended Posts

my 03 Sierra's horn is, well, must admit, quite wimpy when compared that to my '87 K20's dual horn or the '96Z28/SS horns.

i have a parts truck for the '87 and that has dual horns. is it possible to use those horns, splicing and resoldering the connections from the '03 to make the old ones work or should i just grin and bear it.

was just a thought.

left my moms and honked the horn to say bye and was wow..what was that peep squeek of a sound. thought it was like a rice burner or something.

no, dont want any air horns, did consider the General Lee's sound..lol

any thoughts or suggestions?

My 2005 Silverado has dual horns that sound decent. I was unaware that any of GM's fullsize trucks had anything but dual horns.

If your truck has only one horn, there's no chord being played. Horns have specific notes, like A or D or G. So if you just add a horn, you'd have to figure out which note you already have and then add a different one.

Cheekster96,

You should reconsider using Air Horns...I got rid of these crap horns that came with my HD and replaced them with two sets of Hadley Air Horns....The Best Thing I have ever done!

Here is a picture of the Tank and Compressor...Air Horns are behind the Bumper

Kenworth....are air horns legal? where did you get yours from and how much? i wouldnt think they would be too difficult to install.

anything i put on the truck is better than what it has now.

Airhorns are perfectly legal. I would think the hardest part would probably be running the air lines from the compressor tank to the horns themselves. But if you dont have to go thru the firewall, it should be a pretty easy job. Just my 2 cents :seeya: Good luck. Post pics when your finished if you dont mind. I havent decided what I want to do with my 2004 yet.

Yeah Air Horns are legal, if, not ever 18 wheeler on the road would be ticketed.

Got a set from J.C. Whitney, lucked out on Ebay and got another Brand New Horn that was never used. So, I actually have two horns installed in the truck and I added an extra large air tank.

Installation was pretty easy, but, I had to make my own custom made brackets for the Horns and Tank.

Here's a picture of the Horns, they are behind the Bumper hidden under the skid plate.

Fiamm makes a dual air horn that uses an instantaineous air pump. No compressor or tank to worry about. They're plastic and relatively cheap but they work. I had one on a truck years ago and the blast is instant. It's higher pitch due to the short length of the horns but whose got room for a 26" Grover or Hadley under the hood anyway.
