The backup lights on my father's 98 S-10 Blazer stopped working. He checked the bulbs, and they are good...he also checked the fuse, and that is good too. Is there a switch somewhere that activates them? He has a manual tranny...if that helps. Anyone have any ideas...

if he tows with it, the switch is weak and tends to burn out fairly easy when hit w/ the heavy duty use of powering trailer lights too.

The reverse switch on the manual tranny is sticking out of the driver's side about middle of the tranny towards the top where the shifter is, just disconnect the wire harness, replace w/ the new one, and you're ready to roll, 10 minutes tops. The switches are available at pretty much all the auto parts stores. I don't remember a torque spec or anything, don't go monkey tight, just snug like a drain plug.

good luck!

OK how about on a 2003 Silverado HD LT with all bells & whistles. I was dorking around checking the terminals in the light socket with a meter & now the lights do not work when in reverse or when the remote is used to unlock the doors as normally do. I have checked the fuses & the one I found that is said to be for B/U Lamps is fine.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Scot

I think there is a fuse or relay under the hood for the reverse lights. If not, the only other source would be the park/neutral safety switch located on the driver's side of the tranny (surrounds the gear selector).

Look in yuor owner's manual towards the back of it, it will list all the fuses and the circuits they service. This may help you locate it.

good luck!

Duh I forgot about the fuse panel there on the side of the dash inside the driver's door. Therre was a blown fuse in there.

Thanks,

Scot
