lower engine noise

Question

Cold start car for about a minute, then I drive to my destination and park the car. The knocking and pinging occurs when I start the car again. Does this make any sense? What is causing these knocking and pinging noises. I tried fuel injection cleaners and nada. Need help from the experts. This is a 2003 GMC yukon SLE.

I had a similar noise coming from under the truck, took it in and found that the flywheel/flex plate had cracked. The OEM is an aluminum plate, I took it in, and the dealer replaced it no problem. All was well after that.

My truck is not making any knocking noises....yet......but I only have 3,000 miles on it so far. The 2004 and 2005s seem to be much better about not having this problem that the 2003 and earlier trucks.

Most people have concluded that the piston slap sounds bad, but has not caused serious mechanical failures of the engine. Some people have tried different weight oil or synthetic oil that has helped somewhat, but there is no easy/cheap fix....

Hate to tell you, but it sure sounds like CSK. The best they will do is give you a 6 yr 100k warranty on the engine. The noise is NORMAL but they will give you the warranty "to put your mind at ease". :fume::cheers::crazy::D

Unless it's really cool/cold outside, which I doubt in June, a cold start knock is typically not going to occur until the vehicle has sat overnight. It might do it after sitting through an 8 hour work day.

I'm not sure what you mean when you say it occurs when you start it again. Did it do it the first time you started in in the morning? If not, it's not a cold start knock. If it's going to do it, it's definitely going to happen on the first start in the morning. How long does it sit before you start it again and make this noise?

Ayte thanks alot for the site. I didn't know about GM knowing these occuring problems with the trucks. Keep me posted if your truck does knock and ping like a diesel truck does....I hope not though..Thanks again.
