GM making deals...

By now I'm sure you all heard that GM is opening up the family and employee discounts to all! Wife's Burban is only two years old and my HD is only a year old, so we are sticking with our rides (and the 0% financing) for now.

Co-worker is thinking about a Denali...so I called my dealer buddy and asked about pricing. He quoted me a price on a new Denali that was just over 21% off sticker! Pretty darn amazing!

If you are in the market, and don't mind that trucks (and possibly SUV's) are getting a makeover next year, well then this is the time to buy!

Yeah, I just read it too... I get/got GM supplier discount when I bought my truck... looks like i could have saved another grand or two if I had waited... I wonder what they would give me on a 2005 4wd Silverado with 6500 miles on it....

Actually it is better than GMS (employee pricing). Employees are not able to use their points from their GM cards yet consumers will be able to until this program is over on July 5th. It should help GM move some vehicles.

It looks like GM pulled all the rebates though.

There was something that the special price would not apply to some trucks:

"The program includes all GM vehicles except the Chevrolet Corvette and GMC medium duty trucks"

And GMS isn't really a fantastic price. The nice part for them is they can go in to order a vehicle knowing exactly what it is going to cost. What the dealer gives for a trade-in is still in question. Used to be that a GMS option was 5% below the best price by a dealer.

Nope, my dealer said he could get me $3,000 rebate, as long as I didn't opt for the GMAC financing. So take your pick...rebate, or cruddy bank loan interest on vehicle?

My experience was a little different. When I purchased my '05 truck in '04 they gave me the $3k rebate plus $500 business card AND the special lower financing rate. So I still believe everything is negotiable in an auto purchase. Also watch out for them calculating the sales tax on the original MSRP.

Here in Portland, Oregon, 30 Tahoes and 30 Suburbans are in the Sunday paper from Town & Country Chevrolet for $13,000 off of MSRP. Say, if you bought a Tahoe with an MSRP of $46,000 (we did last year), you'd write a check for $33,000, plus $200 or so for four years license (Oregon is really low) and title. Awfully good deal and it figgers to about 27% off of MSRP.

We did a similar buy last year and it was flawless; no hassles, just write the check. No sales tax here in Oregon, so we don't have to watch out for the dealer doing bad-nasties with numbers.

Oh, Duramaxes are $10,000 off of MSRP. T&C has only eight at that price, but they are the ones you'd want; crew cab/regular bed, a couple of crew cab/long beds and all in popular colors.

GM was down 7% in truck sales #s last month compared to last year. Must be trying to move product.

I heard GM's cutting production in the 3rd quarter due to sluggish sales. I'm guessing this is an attempt to boost sales and clear out some inventory?

Still a great idea though if you're in the market for a new vehicle.

I bought my truck in July last year and my fiancee wants a new Mustink GT. I convinced her to look at the Avalanche or Crew Cab 2WD. I am looking at Crew Cab Z-71. The sticker on the Z-71 in $35k and the dealer is asking $25k. The sticker on the 2WD Avy is $30k and he is asking almost $20k. I can't pass this up. He told me his Dealer Holdback is gone as well as the 2% advertising so he is selling for the exact dollar the truck actually cost him had he sold it at invoice due to loss of holdback. It won't pay his lights or his secretary and he assured me I would hate the trade in value on my truck. I paid $31k for my truck with a sticker of $39k back in 2004 with 0%. He can sell me an 05 2500HD just like it for $28k. GMAC Interest rates suck if you take the $3k cash, but the credit union is 5.9%. We'll see.

On April 23rd, I purchased my truck (see signature) for just over $25,000 and it had a sticker of $32,080. This yields just over 21% off.

hmm I really have not thought about trading mine in. I bought it 3 yrs ago for $28,000 with 5% interest and I now have 92,000 miles on it now. I do not think I would be able to get a good trade in value for it but I might have to check it out and see if I can get an ext cab 4x4.

Yeah, I was surprised when I bought my new truck two weeks ago. I was able to get my fully loaded 2005 Silverado for $37000 when the sticker was $44500 (all in CAD) plus the 48 month 0% financing ontop of that as well. It's definitely not a bad time to upgrade vehicles if you really have (want) to get a new GM. :ughdance:

And in 60 days you will be driving a 1 year old GM vehicle. The 2006 model year will be rolling out soon.

Great marketing ploy on GM's part. Sales are the pitts for them (and US auto makers as a whole), Jump start sales and clear the dealer lots of 2005 inventory to make room for the 2006's

Also our "used" vehicles are now worth less thanks to the drop in the new vehicle prices. Will this also flood the market with more than usual used vehicles and early terminations of lease vehicles ?

What will GM do to sell 2006's ? same Discounts ?

The Generals in deep DoDo unless he can start making some real profits
