GnatGoSplat Posted June 3, 2005 Posted June 3, 2005 Did 99+ GMC Sierras or Chevy Silverados ever come with a factory hood made of fiberglass? I hadn't ever seen such a thing, but I found someone selling a GMC hood and he claims it's made of fiberglass and is a factory hood.
Hotwire Posted June 3, 2005 Posted June 3, 2005 Mine seems to be on my 00. pop the hood and look underneath, all i see is fiberglass webbing instead of sheetmetal. I can take a pic and post it later on if you're interested.
99-2door Posted June 3, 2005 Posted June 3, 2005 No fiberglass factory hoods . (yes that is a period) Hotwire-- I think you may be looking at the hood insulation blanket.

Hotwire Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 No fiberglass factory hoods . (yes that is a period) Hotwire-- I think you may be looking at the hood insulation blanket. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> DITTO,No factory fiberglass hoods, ever! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> ok, actually took the time to LOOK at my hood. Check this out and see if you would think this was a fiberglass hood as a 2 sec first impression. Trust me, I like this truck, but don't tend to make it a habit to stare at certain parts. and man, i know what a hood blanket is. Seems I remember tearing the ratty one off the 89 s-10 I had when I was wiring up the LT1 cause it kept falling to pieces on the back of my neck... yes, i was offended, sorry, don't know why, but that irked me. that was before it blew a head gasket and I decided to bolt on the LT4 conversion and go 13.4 @ 101 at rockingham straight off the street. That piece under my hood is some type of rubber substance, kind of like the stuff that keeps products on packages.. packaging booger. guess gm put it there in case the hood latch failed so it would hit that and bouce a little before putting a dent in the hood. who knows with them anymore.
Hotwire Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 re-read your post and saw it wasn't really typed the way I read it. sorry. here's the truck I was talking about. http://216.77.188.54/coDataImages/p/Groups...18P1170007r.jpg day it was sold to make room in the checkbook for my little girl http://216.77.188.54/coDataImages/p/Groups...Picture011r.jpg peace man.
MS3DALE Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 Hotwire,What your looking at is a separate piece thats about 12x4" big and what GM calls a "Reinforcement" in the parts catalog, its part #15097890,I don't know what its purpose is but maybe a bodyman can chime in and let us know. I have one in my hand now that we have in stock and its not very think, real thin actually.

They put those on the back of body panels that need a little extra dampening. Take a look at the top back corner of your front fenders. It has them there too. The OBS ext. cabs had a similar thing on the inside of the cab rear quarters. The old one was just a patch of rubber though.
