Went to rotate my tires this weekend and started by pulling the left rear tire off and could not believe it, the rotors are just about gone , on the outside facing wheel, the rotor is really bad , grooves cut in and alip of rust on the outside, the inside or back of rotor is worn only in the middle where the pads are hitting it . i looked at the left side and it looks the same, the front rotors and pads look great seem to be waring good but the back look really bad , this truck has only 19,500 miles on it ! can't believe that the rear brakes could be worn that fast ! i don't ride my brakes or jump on them hard plus i have never but once had to change rear brakes before. is this something that the dealer will cover ? i don't really see how the back once could be worn like this and the front are good? is this a common problem? any help would be great ! thanks

Welcome to the club. Seriously, the rear brakes on the 2500HD are a bit lacking IMO. I had to replace the rotors and pads on my 2001 a couple weeks ago. They were very rusty, and not just surface rust,it was at bad. When I pulled the rotors I actually had parts of the rotor crumble in my hand.

I spend time at 3-4 GM sites and this is a common topic of discussion.

It seems like you'll either get 100K plus out of a set or they'll be in extremely poor shape in less than 50K.

I got the later, mine were toast at less than 46K.

Hay 496 your lucky then becuase i won't even get to 20,000 ! thats how bad they are, i just have never seen brakes with this few of miles on them look so bad, there really is no saving them the pads are half missing, the rotorsare just gone can't believe it. never heard any noise from them till just a few weeks ago and thats only once in awhile when i back up, i wonder if there is something wrong with the calipers on these trucks? I meen shoulded the front have more ware on them ? they look pretty much like new, this truck is really getting the best of me i will be going to see my local dealer by fri. just to see what he will say, but i'm sure that it won't be good ! this my friends will most likely be my last GM i just think they are really going down hill ! anybody else ? thanks !

Same deal here. I did front and rear brakes. All the rotors were rusted and pitted. They would not have turned. I replaced them with Brembo rotors and ceramic pads from tirerack.com for about 575. You'll get serious sticker shock form the dealer. Rear rotors were about 500 each.

I guess at 19K it would be covered under warranty.

Well just got ahold of the service manager today, ( he was on vac. and nobody could help me ) he told me my truck was still under the warranty he said 2yrs and 24,000 was the cut off and i have 19,700 now, anyhow he told me that you need to clean and grease the cailaprs at 15,000 or they will stick and this is what happen to my truck, i told him i could not believe that this is something that happens all the time as he told me it does ! anyhow he said they would replace the rotors and pads under warranty. i still think that the dealers should let the people know about this stuff if this is something that does happen all the time as he told me it is in the owners book but that he was sure i never read it ! sorry i have to admit i have not read it from cover to cover , but i guess i and everybody else had better! thanks for the help guys. :seeya:

My Buddy has an 02 HD, I walked by his truck and noticed his rotors were delaminating. His truck has 13K miles!! He took it to the dealer, they had to put pads and rotors all the way around, $800+!! They covered it under warranty.
