I have a 1996 GMC 5.7 4x4. I was driving it yesterday and I noticed when I turned on the turn signals the voltage gauge was moving alot. About 3 minutes later I heard a couple of small tick sounds and looked at the voltage gauge and it went all the way to the left and then the engine died. It will turn over but not start. The voltage gauge is all the way to the left as if the battery is dead, and none of the other gauges have moved. When I turn on the ignition, nothing on the instrument cluster is working, the backlights on the cluster work, but no gauges work, and the normal check lights do not come on and the horn and turn signals are not working now. Also I do not hear the fuel pump now. The radio, headlights, and blower work. I sprayed gas in the throttle body and it will also not start. It is as if some power wire has went out.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Found out the problem, there is a yellow wire running up into the steering column into a black box just below the ignition switch, i wiggled it and all the power came back on and the truck started. I moved it around and it is the problem.

Thanks
