Installing Trailer Break Controller

I'm pikcing up my new truck tomorrow night (see signature), and I'll have to install a new break controller into it before the upcoming weekend (pulling vacation trailer).

 

I'm told this is quite an easy process, as most everything comes with the truck and is already in place from a wiring perspective.

 

Any first hand knowledge? Any particular suggestions or tips in order to make the process easier?

Do you already have the controller? If not, order the Tekonsha Prodigy and the GM adapter for it. It's a plug and play install. Make sure you get the adapter for '03-'05 trucks.

 

Otherwise, make sure you get the harness from GM, plug it in under the dash and wire accordingly.

 

A word of caution, do your best to try and get at least 500-1,000 miles on the rig before towing, and try to change the oil before the trip. You want to give the engine, tranny and rear axle some break-in time before putting the towing stress on them. This may even be mentioned in the owner's manual, but you can ask your salesman about it when you pick up. My dad was provided those words of caution when he got his new Ram last year.

Installing my brake controller in the 04 CC was a snap, as long as you have the included cable for the adaptor that GM included in the glove box.

Yea, it's a snap. Connect the wires between the harness and the controller unit, plug the harness in under the dash, and pop in the fuse in the fuse box under the hood. Couldn't be simpler...I was shocked how easy it was on mine.
