Picking up a coleman popup Tuesday

I have a 01 ecsb with the 4.3. How do I find out if it has a transmission cooler? When I look under the truck 2 lines come off the top of the tranny and go to the radiator, I thought it would be seperate. Or is this something else? Also the camper has electric brakes. Should I get a brake controller for it?

I just read another post about a tekonsha prodigy brake contoller, where does the gm harness plug into?

The trailer empty is 2600#'s and loaded up to 3700#'s.

thanks,

Your cooler is inside the Rad. Unless you have the tow package, which includes the hitch and 7 pin connector on the rear and external cooler.

For the coleman popup you will have to add a 12V back to the camper to charge the battery, which is also your power for the brakes if safety is pulled.

Which Camper did you get? I have a 99 Sun Valley.

I bought a 99 Coleman Bayside with the slide out.

Should I add a external cooler or will the internal one do ok?

I wouldn't worry too much if all you're pulling is a popup. I have pulled heavier things with a Ranger without any trouble (not that I recommend it, but it will work in a pinch). My Sierra doesn't have a tow package, I installed an aftermarket hitch on it though, and it does the job just fine. Main thing is not to forget you're pulling something! Trailer brakes are great, but if some idiot pulls out in front of you, they won't save you.

Trailer brakes are always good. even if you do not need them due to the size of the trailer, they will always help in a pinch. As for the wiring, it should be at the back of the truck already, for you year, all you need to do is buy the brake module, mount it and add the plug for your vehicle (under dash and under bumper). You will be ready to go. Oh and don't forget to add the fuse for the power wire on the trailer brakes. You should be okay without a aftermarket tranny cooler, unless you are pulling larger loads.
