I know this has been discussed up and down.

Was checking out crutchfield and when i put in 2000 silverado ext cab it gave me a bunch of sizes for the rear and front

What sizes are the rear (4x6?)

What sizes are the front

Thanks

Make sure you get OVERSIZED 6 1/2s for the front.  I believe that the tweeters are 5 1/4 (someone check on that).  Otherwise you won't be able to mount them.  4x6 plates in the back.

Exactly what is a "OVERSIZED" 6 1/2" speaker??  I don't think that anything like that exists.  I believe that you should buy a 6 1/2" and an adapter ring.??

Also,  5 1/4" tweeters??  Dude what arre you smoking??  NFW!!!!!

The tweeter is a funny shaped mount, but is mostly plastic flange, not a 5 1/4"!!!  You can easily make an adapter for any 3/4" or 1" tweeter with a piece of ABS plastic.

OVERSIZED means "bigger than"!  Go to a stereo store or open a catalog.  Pioneer makes lots of them.  Crutchfield used to call them "6 1/2 S" but now changed to "6 3/4".

scooter you are correct.  They are "oversized" 6 1/2's

Ryan, if you knew the answer, why did you ask the F--ing question????

Sorry, but I still don't buy the "oversized" BS.  Now were saying 6 3/4"???  Come on??

Please show me proof and I'll gladly admit that I am wrong.

PS:  Don't show me something with an adapter ring either.

if i knew?

Well i found the link to my old site today (lost all my bookmarks due to the @home thing) and reread some old speaker topics

In the description it calls them oversized.  It says "Pioneer designed these TS-1620II 3-way speakers as an easy replacement for vehicles which have oversized 6-1/2" (or 6-3/4") openings."

So basically oversized 6 1/2" speakers and 6 3/4" spekers are the same thing.  I've heard the ones in the new trucks called "Oversized 6 1/2" many times as well.

whats with people tonight? Everyone wants to argue.  1st it was this guy on a yahoo chat who said the dmax engines werent built in the US even with proof he wouldnt believe me

I see that both sides could be considered correct here.  Like I said, its a 6 1/2" with an wide flange.

Ok, so they call it a 6 3/4", I'm sorry.

Certainly, a 6 1/2" will fit, with little or no mods.

Ryan, nobody wants to argue, just a heated discussion here,  TOUGHEN UP a little!!!

Guys, yes they will fit.  I've been in the stereo industry for about 10 years now, and was an installer at a custom shop, building competition systems, for 6 years.  The pioneers are 6.5" and are called "oversized" b/cause of the mounting flange.  All you guys need is a little creativity and anything will fit, hell I've put 10's in the door of a Honda Civic.  I've also seen 2 6.5's in the factory door locations on these newer body styles.  Just whip up an adaptor ring out of MDF or ABS and use what you want, personally you couldn't pay me enough to put in Pioneers.  :D  :P
