0 to 60 time for an 8.1L 4x4?

I did a few rough 0-60 time trials with my 2003 6.8L F250 a few days ago at an abandoned strip mine paved access road.

I did it several times and got anywhere from 8.4s to 8.8s. This was taking off in a straight line in 4wd. In 2wd I had to be careful about losing traction and it made me lose about .5 second. I have 3.73s, 33" tires and the curb weight is about 6800lbs.

In my opinion not too bad for a stock engined 4x4 that weighs almost 7000lbs and has a GCWR of 17,000lbs.

My times seem pretty much in line with what the guys at Ford sites are getting with trucks similar to mine. I didn't have enough road to do a 1/4 mile.

I wanted to know if some of you guys with 8.1L 4x4s have ever timed your 0-60. Just curious.

Most of the magazines I've read that tested the two engines against each other only showed them having about 1/2 of a second difference either way.

We timed my wife's stock F150 with 3.73/5.4L two times and it was starting to rain. It got 8.7s both times. The F150 is not a fast truck but it'll cruise all day on the highway at 65/70 in OD without downshifting at all as will the F250. Both stay around 1800/1900rpm to do 65mph in OD.

ive got a suburban so i dont lose traction but i think it can do it right at those times, spot on, im getting a tune this week so i'll post back on how that goes, also for 2004 it has part throttle delay so the throttle body doesnt open fully until 3000 rpms, also alot depends on the launch, those v10's arent slow though

My truck with 4.10LS and a Volant intake did 8.59 seconds to 60.

After the Westers install she went down to 7.5 seconds.

Truck weighs 6455lbs. with full fuel and driver.

This was done before the mods listed below other than the Volant.

Geez, I didn't realize the Wester's tune made so much difference! Sounds like it will take roughly 1 second off the 0-60 average.

And 4.56s 0 to 60 in an 8.1L pickup! That's wild-nitrous or not!

Thanks for the replies. Anymore?
